After a long silence, Piaggio India has updated the Vespa VXL 149, SXL 149, VXL 125 and SXL 125 with BS6-compliant engines. The name which has been changed from VXL 150 and SXL 150 to VXL 149 and SXL 149 is due to the new engine which now displaces 149cc. To keep the emissions coming out from the exhaust in check, 3 catalytic converters have been added to the new powertrain.

VXL 149: Rs 1.22 lakh
SXL 149: Rs 12.6 lakh
VXL 125: Rs 1.10 lakh

The BS6 Vespa VXL 149 is priced at Rs 1.22 lakhs ex-showroom and the SXL 149 is priced at Rs 1.26 lakhs ex-showroom. The VXL 125 is priced at Rs 1.10 lakhs and the SXL 125 is priced at Rs 1.13 lakhs. The engines have been reworked and the 150cc engine is now smaller by 1cc. The propulsor is a 149cc BS6-compliant 3-valve single-cylinder engine that churns out 10.46 PS and 10.6 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm. The power is transferred to the rear wheel via a CVT box.
Talking about the 125 variants, both the VXL 125 and SXL 125 gets a 125cc single-cylinder 3-valve engine which churns out 9.78 Ps and 9.6 Nm of torque. Both the scooters sport a monocoque steel body; ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and CBS (Combined Braking System) have been given to 150 and 125 range respectively.

The front gets a single sidearm suspension with anti-dive characteristics whereas the rear gets dual-effect hydraulic shock absorber. Both the VXL and SXL gets 200mm front disc brake and 140mm rear drum brake. The front wheel is shod with 110/70-11" tyre and the rear one gets 120/70-10" tyre.
