Apollo tyres have launched the 'Go The Distance' pitches which uses the repurposed tyres for their development completely. Read the details below.
Sticking to their target of achieving a true hundred percent sustainability; Apollo Tyres has launched two 'Go The Distance' playground pitches in Chennai and Pune. These football ground pitches are claimed to have been made purely from the repurposed tyres from the manufacturer.
According to the manufacturer, to create these playground pitches it used the repurposed tyres which were either discarded or in the end of their life cycle. These pitches are aimed towards providing access for sports encouragement and fitness motivation among players and consumers of Apollo tyres itself.

Apollo has used 1,500 car (ELT) end-of-life tyres and further converted them into rubber crumbs from itself to create these two various pitches. The size of the field is 160 feet X 90 feet and a total of 7,500 kgs of crumb rubber was used to create each field respectively. According to the company, this creation also helps in developing a stronger base of the field and hence enhances the quality of pitch.
According to the reports from tyre industry, a total of 1-billlion discarded tyres are being made each year and currently more than 4-billion such tyres are lying in the landfills in form of stockpiles globally. Apollo has already inaugurated such 'Go The Distance' pitch in Manchester, UK in tribute for its partner i.e. Manchester United Football Club.
The development of these pitches was the take care shall be done via HotFut Sports Infrastructure Private Ltd., with which Apollo has tied up. Apollo aims at opening 4 more such venues in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai in the upcoming months along further addition to the North-Eastern states.
These new pitches have also enabled the manufacturers to opt for new learning programs such as the Apollo Tyre United We Programme with Manchester United Soccer Schools; helping to promote sports among youth.
