Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R: Anticipated Launch by Year's End!

The BS6 regulations were rolled out in India on April 1, 2020, replacing the previous BS4 standards. This shift had repercussions for many vehicles, including the Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R, which seemed to bid farewell as did most other 600cc supersport bikes. But Kawasaki surprised everyone by resurrecting the 6R for 2023, now compliant with Euro 5 and boasting several updates.

Now, let's talk about the differences we can expect in this new version. The biggest change we can expect is in the front part. The 6R will have new and strong LED lights along with a new windscreen. This will make it look very different from the older 6R model, which will look like a few other Kawasaki bikes. Also, the side panels on the bike will be changed. They will have small wing-like parts built into them, similar to the latest Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R.

On the tech front, the 6R will come equipped with a brand-new 4.3-inch TFT display that will be compatible with Bluetooth. Another visual alteration worth mentioning is Kawasaki's shift from petal discs to round ones. The remainder of the bike, including the rear section and tail lamp, will remain similar to the outgoing model.

When it comes to its features, the 6R will now boast a quick-shifter, but it will be worth noting that it appears to be primarily designed for upshifting, given the continued presence of a cable-controlled throttle. Additionally, the new 6R will enhance your riding experience with three levels of traction control, three power modes, and three riding modes. Interestingly, the updated TFT display will even include an ECO riding indicator, although its utility on a bike like this might be somewhat limited.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R: Powertrain, Price And Rivals

Under the hood, you'll find the same 636cc four-cylinder powerhouse that revs up to an exhilarating 16,000rpm. However, the recent changes primarily revolve around compliance with emissions regulations, resulting in a minor dip in power and torque figures. Peak power now sits at 129hp, down by just 1hp, while peak torque has marginally decreased from 70.8Nm to 69Nm.

As for the price, the old ZX6R was positioned just under Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom, India) when it went off sale and we expect the new one to cost somewhere between Rs 11.50 lakh-12 lakh when it does return. The bike should be launched in India by the end of 2023 and if Kawasaki were to launch it at that price it would be positioned on par with the Rs 11.80 lakh Street Triple RS.

BMW F 900 R, Triumph Street Triple, Harley-Davidson Iron 883, Kawasaki Ninja 1000, Ducati Monster and several other models all fall within a similar price range as the expected pricing for the ZX6R and offer comparable performance and features. However, each of these motorcycles has its unique strengths and weaknesses. For example, the Triumph Street Triple is known for its agile handling and triple-cylinder engine, while the BMW F 900 R is known for its comfortable riding position and powerful parallel-twin engine.

Verdict

Kawasaki's expansion in the Indian market with the ZX6R is a promising move, especially after adapting it to meet BS6 and Euro 5 standards. The design upgrades and tech additions make it stand out, though the minor power dip is a trade-off.
