Maruti Suzuki delighted its fanboys/girls with the landing of a practical offroader that the country demanded. And what could be better than a power-packed world-renowned tag of the Jimny? It was a long pending launch. But the wait was worth it as now Jimny landed with 5-door in India in a world debut. But Mahindra Thar is currently the most cherished workhorse in this thriller of a segment.
So what does Jimny offers over the currently reigning Mahindra Thar? Let us list it down.
1. 6 Airbags With Jimny: Safety First
What is required from an adventure vehicle if things go south? Apart from a lot of things, the airbags. The Maruti Jimny offers 6 airbags as standard on all its variants, which is a notch up than the Mahindra Thar. Mahindra Thar offers only 2 front airbags, even on its top-end model.
Although the 6 airbag set-up, according to the mandate of the Government, is to be standard across all cars in all their variants from October 2023, at this point in time, Jimny gets the point.

What the Mahindra Thar lacks is the 2 rear doors for easier ingress and egress. Although the Jimny is still a 4 seater, with the availability of 2 rear doors, it is much more practical in terms of second-row accessibility. This further puts it into a much more family-friendly offroad vehicle.
3. Rear Rolling Down Windows- Naturally Ventilated
With 2 rear doors, the windows are only a logical inclusion. But, the segment rivals like the Force Gurkha and the Mahindra Thar opting for just a 3-door version as of now makes it a 'nicely ventilated' upgrade for second-row comfort. Want a little more fresh air of your own? Simply roll down your own windows. Simple, but convenient!
4. LED Headlamp With Washer: A Practically Premium Touch
Jimny is here to soothe the pain points of the Thar. It gets a Full LED Projector headlamps setup, which is not available in any variant of the Thar. This is practicality, but the headline also said something about premium. Right? It gets a headlight washer setup as well, which is offered on premium sedans and SUVs across the world. And this is here on the Jimny 5-Door as well. Muddy terrain? No problem.
The company could've settled just for the LED headlamps, but the washer addition is a commendable upgrade in a car of this price range. This makes it the cheapest car to offer this feature as well.
5. Practical Boot Space: Ready For A Family Weekend
A longer wheelbase means only one thing, Extra space! With the wheelbase now longer than the 3-door Jimny, it gets a little more space in the second row. The boot is also now a little more practical with 208 liters of space on offer, which is a sizeable upgrade when compared to the Thar. Again, the cargo space increases the family-friendliness nature of the Jimny 5-Door.

VERDICT- TheMaruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door has seen over 3000 bookings already, even before the revealing of price. This displays the kind of fan following the SUV enjoys. Plus, it is also because of the shortcomings of the other two contendors in the segment. A family wants rear doors in India, which was the complaint with th Thar as well. This is a reason that the company decided to completely skip the 3-Door version alltogether for the Indian Market. Intersetingly, a Mahindra Thar 5-Door is also not very far away from reality as the speculations and some reports suggest. But, for now, Jimny takes the lead in practicality.
