New images of Volkswagen's upcoming electric SUV have emerged online, showcasing its camouflaged design. Although the automaker has yet to officially name this entry-level electric SUV, indications suggest a departure from the current numerical naming convention. CEO Thomas Schafer's vision to reestablish Volkswagen as a "love brand" involves phasing out the existing naming pattern.

Schafer has confirmed the preservation of iconic names like Golf, Tiguan, and Passat, hinting at a shift toward individual names for each model in the VW lineup. There's a possibility of maintaining the 'ID' branding, similar to the ID Buzz MPV.

Anticipated for a 2024 debut in near-production form, the SUV will be revealed a few months after the ID 2. This strategic move aligns with Schafer's commitment to reshaping the brand and could signify a broader shift in Volkswagen's approach to model naming and branding. This electric vehicle shares the compact MEB Entry platform with the ID 2 and is set to be manufactured alongside the hatchback in Spain.

Volkswagen's upcoming baby SUV boasts a bold, clean-cut design, departing from the curvy ID models. Designed by Andreas Mindt, it reflects a "safe, confident, bold" style akin to the ID 2 All. Resembling the ID 2 hatchback, it features an upright silhouette, bulkier wheel arches, a distinct C-pillar vent, and a rear spoiler. This marks a departure from the current ID 4 and ID 5, introducing a fresh brand image. The preview indicates a sharp, assertive look for the SUV.

The interior of the upcoming model is anticipated to closely resemble the ID 2. It will feature a sizable 12.9-inch infotainment screen and a 10.9-inch digital driver display. Notably, physical switches will be integrated for audio and climate control, along with other convenient features to enhance the overall driving experience. Volkswagen's commitment to elevating material quality and minimizing environmental impact is evident in its pursuit to eliminate all adhesives and rigid plastics from the interiors of its next-generation vehicles.

Volkswagen's upcoming electric SUV is gearing up to hit the market with some noteworthy features. First off, it will come equipped exclusively with a single motor on the front axle, packing a punch with 223 horsepower. This configuration sets the stage for an exciting driving experience.

Now, when it comes to powering this electric SUV, buyers will have a choice between two battery options: a 38kWh and a 56kWh. Opting for the larger 56kWh battery promises an impressive range of around 450 kilometres. This means drivers can embark on more extended journeys without constantly worrying about recharging.

Speaking of recharging, Volkswagen has engineered the larger battery to be a speed demon when it comes to topping up. Thanks to its rapid charging capability of 125kW, it can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 20 minutes. This feature significantly enhances the convenience of owning an electric vehicle, making it more practical for users with tight schedules or those on the go.
