Expert Verdict on Versys X 300
The Kawasaki Versys X-300 has returned to the Indian market after quite the hiatus, and not a lot has changed honestly. The powertrain sure sees a bump in power and we expect it to carry on with the same refinement, but for the price that it comes at, it lacks a lot of features, premium hardware and rider aids that its rivals offer for nearly the same price point.

Pros & Cons of Kawasaki Versys X 300
Kawasaki Versys X 300 Detailed Review
-
The Versys X-300 is the baby Versys in Kawasaki India’s lineup, and it draws inspiration from the larger Versys bikes in the lineup. It continues to look familiar to the model that used to be on sale a few years ago. Unlike traditional ADVs, this Versys does not come with a beak up front, and it makes do with a conventional mud-guard instead. There are two dual-tone colour schemes on offer; Metallic Ocean Blue with Pearl Robotic White, and Candy Lime Green with Metallic Flat Spark Black.
-
The presence of spoke rims signify its dual-purpose nature, even though the tall windscreen and the conventional stubby exhaust pipe might give the impression that it leans more heavily towards the touring bits. Also, unlike most of the competition, the Versys X-300 does not get LED lighting, and instead it carries on with a halogen headlamp, tail lamp and winkers.
Versys X 300 body specifications:
Seat Height | 815 mm |
Weight | 175 kg |
Wheel Size | 19 inch inch & 17 inch inch |
Fuel Tank Capacity | 17 liters |
-
Unlike most of its rivals with a single-cylinder powertrain, the Versys X-300 comes with a 296cc, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder powertrain, which produces 40.04bhp at 11,500rpm and 25.7Nm of torque at 10,000rpm. This powertrain is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-assist clutch. This powertrain has been carried over from the Ninja 300, but with higher figures.
-
Compared to other single-cylinder motorcycles in this segment, the Versys X-300 is close to the KTM 390 Adventure in terms of power, and it also manages to trump the Yezdi Adventure. However, the other two bikes offer better torque than the Versys X-300, thus further signifying that it is more focused on touring rather than hardcore off-roading.
-
In terms of hardware, the Versys X-300 is rather basic. The frame hangs off of telescopic forks with 130mm of travel, and a gas-charged monoshock with 148mm of travel at the rear. It also makes use of a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel with spoke rims. However, unlike the Himalayan, the Kawasaki does not come with tubeless wheels. The brake diameters are not specified, but it gets disc brakes on both ends.
-
The Versys X-300 is also basic in terms of features and equipment. It comes with a semi-digital instrument cluster, featuring an analogue tachometer and an LCD screen for the speedometer and a gear position indicator. There are no rider aids to speak of either, but there is dual-channel ABS on offer.
