KTM is an Austrian motorcycle brand popular in the Indian two-wheeler market. The brand is known for producing uber-cool performance-oriented motorcycles that are affordable. KTM had ventured into the Indian market in the year 2012 under the partnership of Bajaj Auto. Since then the brand has been presenting Indian motorcycle enthusiasts with mean machines that are fully race-ready.
KTM made its India debut with the introduction of the Duke 200 in 2012. Soon after its launch, the motorcycle paved the way for the brand to introduce its premium range of 300-400cc bikes that are performance-oriented. One such motorcycle from KTM that soon became popular like the Duke 200 is its elder sibling, the Duke 390.
While the Duke series flourished in terms of sales, the demand for supersport motorcycles was on a gradual rise in India. KTM immediately recognised the shift in demand and sets forth with the plan of introducing faired motorcycles. It is at this juncture when the RC range of bikes rise into action. In 2014, KTM decided to spice up things with the launch of a supersport bike under the RC badge- the KTM RC 390. The RC 390 looked aggressive, had razor-sharp handling and a powerful engine that was not meant for the faint-hearted. This motorcycle was a recipe for pure racing madness, hence, became a fan favourite among youngsters in India.
In 2020, with the BS6 regulation kicking in, KTM revamped the RC 390 with minor cosmetic updates and an upgraded engine that was BS6 compliant. The same was carried on to 2021 since the motorcycle already looked contemporary and relevant in time. Currently, due to the aforementioned characteristics and performance, the KTM RC 390 is a strong contender in the cc faired motorcycle segment and challenges the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 300, Benelli 302R and TVS Apache RR 310.

Also, it gets a triple-tone treatment on the body and alloy wheels finished in KTM's signature orange colour. However, the orange alloy wheels are now only provided with the Metallic Silver coloured body. At the rear, the motorcycle gets ultra-stylish LED tail lamps too. The new KTM RC 390 BS6 is quite heavy too as the motorcycle weighs around 170 kilograms. Apart from these, the motorcycle does a decent job in terms of performance and glides over speed bumps without scraping the underbody thanks to the 178 mm of ground clearance it has on offer.
Summary
The new KTM RC 200 has a good ride height, however, the seat height is on the higher side. The fuel tank capacity seems to limit the motorcycle performance to go the distance without worrying about how much fuel is left in the tank.

The motor churns out 43.5 PS maximum power at 9000 RPM and 36 Nm of peak torque at 7000 RPM. The 373.2cc engine is quite responsive and provides great initial pick-up. It also offers decent performance for city commutes. The BS6 engine of the RC 390 is also smooth and refined. It gets a fuel-injection system that significantly makes the engine feel smoother and refined. Also, in the low and mid-range revs, the engine is quick to respond. The new KTM RC 390 BS6 is one of the most powerful 400cc motorcycles currently on sale in the Indian market.
The KTM RC 390 also offers good initial acceleration. The motorcycle feels peppy to ride inside the city limits and it offers good mid-range punch too. On highways, the motorcycle performs extremely well and helps attain staggering speeds of up to 170kmph effortlessly. As for fuel efficiency, the bike manages to deliver around 23-26 kmpl in real-world conditions. The fuel injection technology plays an important role here as it not only improves fuel economy but also the power delivery.
The motorcycle also handles extremely well. It has a robust suspension setup that allows the rider to manoeuvre the bike easily. However, the suspension is set up on the stiffer side and could cause discomfort to the rider.
Summary
The KTM RC 390 is a ready-to-race machine that performs well in cities as well as on highways. The vehicle provides decent comfort on highways but not on bumpy sections of the road.

The KTM RC 390 is based on a powder-coated steel trellis frame. The suspension duties are performed by 43 mm WP APEX upside-down (USD) forks at the front with 125 mm travel and a mono-shock absorber at the rear with 150 mm travel. The suspension is on the stiffer side as a result of which rides could become bumpy. The motorcycle is good for 40-80km rides but beyond that, the rider would feel discomfort due to the setup. For braking duties, it gets disc brakes at both ends. At the front, it gets a 320 mm four-piston radial fixed calliper brake disc while at the rear, it gets a 230 mm single-piston floating calliper brake disc unit. As for the tyres, the RC 390 runs on 17-inch tubeless tyres. The front tyre measures 110/70-17 while the rear one is a 150/60 section 17-inch unit. These tyres provide good resistance against aquaplaning and should ensure a good amount of grip on bad sections of the road.
The RC 390 is also equipped with a decent amount of features like an all-digital instrument cluster loaded with details like real-time fuel efficiency, average speed, gear position indicator, shift light and the regular data. Apart from these, the motorcycle gets, twin projector headlights, with indicators, taillight and DRLs being LED units.
