Tata Tiago / Tigor - 4 Stars
Tata Tiago and its extended version Tigor both scored 4 stars for adult protection and 3 stars for child saftey in the Global NCAP saftey test. Tiago starts at Rs 4.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.74 lakh ex-showroom. Talking about the Tigor it cost Rs 1 lakh more for the base variant than Tiago, and its top trim with CNG automatic costs Rs 9.39 lakh. These vehicle include all the essential features and their ride quality is also quite impressive.
Apart from the saftey factor, Tiago and Tigor are the only vehicles on sale which provide an automatic transmission with a CNG powertrain.
Nissan Magnite - 4 Stars
Nissan India recently launched the X-Trail at a whopping price of Rs 50 lakh ex-showroom. Before that, for several years, the Magnite was the only offering from this Japanese brand. Additionally, in the G NCAP safety test, the vehicle scored 4 stars for adult protection and 2 stars for child safety.
The Magnite starts at Rs 5.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.11 lakh. It is available with a 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine, with manual, AMT, and CVT gearbox options.
Renault Kiger - 4 Stars
This premium version of the Renault Kwid scored 4 stars for adult protection and 2 stars for child safety in the G NCAP safety test conducted in 2022. The Kiger is larger and has more of a macho factor than several compact SUVs out there, and it definitely feels like the Kwid on steroids. It starts at Rs 5.99 lakh, while the AMT variants start at Rs 7.09 lakh, and the turbo variant at Rs 9.29 lakh.
Apart from this saftey rating, Kiger also gets other saftey features like 4 airbags, hill hold assist, rear parking camera and ABS with EBD.
Tata Altroz - 5 Stars
The only premium hatchback in the market with a perfect 5-star safety rating, not just from G NCAP but also Bharat NCAP, is the Altroz. It received 5 stars for adult safety and 4 stars for child safety. As for pricing, it starts at Rs 6.49 lakh, with the top model priced at Rs 11.69 lakh. Recently, the Altroz launched its sportiest version, the Altroz Racer, which comes with the same 1.2L turbo petrol Revotron engine that produces 119 PS and 170 Nm of torque. The Altroz Racer is priced at Rs 9.49 lakh, with the top model costing Rs 10.99 lakh.
Tata Punch - 5 Stars
The Tata Punch, another vehicle in Tata's lineup that has achieved massive success in a short time, continues to sell in large numbers every month and is giving tough competition to all the compact SUVs in the market. It also scored 5 stars for adult safety and 4 stars for child protection in the G NCAP. The Punch starts at Rs 6.13 lakh, with the top trim priced at Rs 10.19 lakh ex-showroom. Additionally, the Punch.ev also scored a perfect 5 stars in both G NCAP and Bharat NCAP.
Tata Nexon - 5 Stars
One of India's favorite SUVs, the Nexon, is not only known for its safety but also for its outstanding ride quality. The Nexon started the wave of safe cars in India and was the first Tata car to score 5 stars in the G NCAP. Even the current model holds a perfect 5 stars for adult protection and 5 stars for child safety.
However, under Rs 10 lakh, customers will only find the base variants, as this vehicle starts at Rs 8 lakh, with the diesel base variant starting at Rs 10 lakh. Additionally, there is a 1.2L Revotron petrol engine and a 1.5L diesel engine. Plus, three transmission options are available: manual, DCT, and automatic.

Verdict
Tata cars truly define the safety standards in India and have become flagbearers for making safe cars in the country. Its competitors, such as Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, dont have a single car on this list, which is a shame considering these two companies dominate the Indian automotive industry. Additionally, if you're looking for something different, the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger are also two safe options.
