Mahindra is one of the largest Utility Vehicle makers in India. This Bombay-based Indian Utility Vehicle manufacturer is well-known for its rough and tough Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs). Mahindra sells a variety of SUVs in India ranging from Bolero to Scorpio to XUV 500 and even the Alturas G4. Mahindra Alturas G4 is a full-size SUV and recently its BS6-compliant model was launched in the Indian market. The Alturas G4 is now the Flagship Mahindra SUV in the country. 2020 Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6: Overview
Mahindra ventured into the premium SUV segment of India in November 2018 by launching the Alturas G4. The Alturas G4 is Mahindra's Flagship SUV in the country. If truth be told, the Mahindra Alturas G4 is essentially a rebadged SsangYong Rexton G4. It is the fourth-generation model of the SsangYong Rexton SUV which Mahindra launched under its umbrella.

The Mahindra Alturas G4 is a really good-looking SUV. Upfront, it gets huge Mahindra's signature seven-slate grille with a lot of chrome accents. The grille is flanked by large projector headlamps which also incorporate the daytime running LEDs. The fog lamps are positioned on the lower part of the bumper. It also gets thin chrome strips on the bumper which further enhance its appeal. The SUV is really long and it gets chrome strips surrounding the window lines too. The side profile houses five-spoke machined-cut dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels and it also gets roof rails.
Coming to the rear profile, the Alturas G4 gets a roof-mounted spoiler and high-mounted stop lamp at the rear. It also gets subtle chrome inserts on the tailgate and on the lower half of the bumper. Like most other SUVs, the Alturas G4 also gets body-cladding all-around. The front and rear bumpers sport chunky plastic cladding too that lend it a more rugged appeal. The Mahindra Alturas G4 is offered in 5 different colour variants. These are Atlantic Blue, Lake Side Brown, Pearl White, Napoli Black and Dsat Silver.

2020 Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6: Engine and Transmission
The Mahindra Alturas G4 gets a sole diesel engine option. It is powered by a BS6-compliant 2.2-litre diesel engine. This oil-burner churns out 180 PS of maximum power at 3800 RPM and 420 Nm of peak torque between 1600-2600 RPM. The engine comes mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox, sourced from Mercedes-Benz. The Alturas G4 also gets a proper 4x4 system and is very capable off the road. Mahindra has achieved BS6-compliance for this SUV with the addition of an SCR (Selective Catalytic Converter) and a Diesel Particulate Filter (PDF). It now also gets AdBlue urea solution and an Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

Mahindra Alturas G4 is a very premium SUV. The cabin of this SUV is very plush and opulent. It gets Premium dual-tone Quilted Nappa leather upholstery. The dashboard and the door panels also get high-quality materials. Taking the centre stage of the dashboard is an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Some other features of the Alturas G4 include ambient lighting, smart boot, ventilated seats, an electric sunroof, digital instrument cluster, six-speakers, etc. It also gets a host of safety features which include up to nine airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree parking camera, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), cruise control, etc.
2020 Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6: Price, Rivals and Verdict
The Mahindra Alturas G4 is sold in India in two variants: 4x2 AT and 4x4 AT. The BS6-compliant two-wheel-drive (RWD) model is priced at Rs. 28.70 lakhs while the four-wheel-drive (4x4) model is priced at Rs. 31.70 lakhs. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi. The Alturas G4 rivals against the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the upcoming MG Gloster. Talking about the verdict, so if you want an affordable seven-seater Premium SUV with a ton of features, great powertrain and good off-road capability, then you should definitely consider buying the Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6.
