If there's one thing that has changed in the automotive industry that has to be the recent technologies and the connected features every carmaker now gives. That aside, the styling of the cars is a bold move in itself. Yes, I am hinting your interest towards the latest trend BMW is offering on their cars and that is the larger grille. In this first look review, we are covering the flagship SAV from BMW that is the X7 and discuss everything about it in detail.
Exteriors
One look at it and you know that the long-awaited Mercedes GLS rival is here. It features a muscular design and the 7-seater really stands confident on the 21-inch wheels. The front bumpers give a bulkier look with large air dams and vertically fog lights with chrome lining guarding the housing. If you ask us then yes, it defines the X7 character in a bold way.

The side profile looks intimidating and the 5.1m long length looks better with 1.8 m height. The chrome garnish on the window lines, larger alloy wheels and the roof rails do make it a looker. It is not as long as the 7-series but then does the job right. The rear profile does not add a drama like the front but then who's complaining when you drive a Rs 1 crore SAV.
Interiors and Features
Step inside and you will notice you have entered into the 7-series saloon but now with a higher stance. The dashboard gets double stitching and the cabin gets finished in fine dual-tone upholstery. The crystal clear gear lever, ambient lighting in 6 colours, a massive panoramic sunroof which moves till the third row and much more. Just ahead of the gear lever you will find a hidden place which is used to hold cups and offer both cool and heated function.
Since this is practically a 7 series but a little bit taller in height, the X7 also offers best in class rear-seat space. The driver side panel gets control of the rear seat function and also houses the massage function for both driver and co-driver. The SAV gets automatic climate control with five-zone control. It gets twin 12.3-inch displays, one for the driver and other for the centre console. It gets a modern cockpit system with BMWs latest operating system 7.0 that includes a 3-D navigation.
Safety Features
With this heavy-duty luxurious vehicle comes the safety rich features and so the X7 is offered with six airbags, electric parking brake with auto hold, ABS with EBD and ESP, attentiveness assistance, dynamic stability control with cornering brake control, side-impact protection and among others. We wish BMW could have offered more than 6 airbags in this one.
Engine and Performance
Currently, the BMW X7 is offered in both petrol and diesel engines. The xDrive 40i is powered by a 3-litre six-cylinder inline petrol unit which makes as much as 335 bhp with 450 Nm of peak torque. The xDrive 30d uses a 3.0L diesel motor which makes 262 bhp with 620 Nm of peak torque. This one pulls and pulls but wait till we tell you about the M50d engine next. The most powerful of the lot is the M50d which uses the 3.0L six-cylinder diesel motor and makes 394 bhp with 760 Nm of peak torque. It does 0-100 km/h sprint in just 5.4 seconds.
Prices and Rivals
The starting price of BMW X7 is marked at Rs 92.50 lakh and goes up till Rs 1.63 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. It rivals the likes of Mercedes GLS, G-Wagon Diesel, Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7.
