Back in May, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. introduced a new trim level for the Mahindra XUV700, the AX5 Select. This trim, positioned in the middle of the XUV700 lineup, comes with high-demand features such as a panoramic sunroof, push-start button, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, all for Rs 16.88 lakh ex-showroom. On the other hand, the next model in the lineup is the AX5, starting at Rs 18.19 lakh. So, what does the extra Rs 1.31 lakh offer? Let's discover that here. I will share what you get in both models and determine how much of a difference the costlier AX5 trim makes.

Mahindra XUV700 AX5 and AX5 Select Price
The XUV700 is available with several trim options, along with diesel and petrol options, transmission options, and seat configurations. The price changes at every stage, but we are going to start with the lowest price list. However, one thing to note is that the AX5 Select doesn't have a 5-seater option, and the AX5 Diesel doesn't get a special Electronic Stability Program variant in the diesel manual like the AX5 Select.

After all, the price tag of Rs 18.19 lakh offers some high-end features like LED headlamps, R17 diamond-cut alloys, and drive modes. However, the interesting part is that for just Rs 16.88 lakh, Mahindra has included features like a panoramic sunroof, dual screens, 6-speakers, and DRLs. The missing features are fog lamps, alloy wheels, and reverse camera.
If we step out of the XUV and look at other vehicles, none of its competitors provide such features in their mid-spec models. Plus, someone looking for a Creta or Seltos will also find this attractive. With a price tag of Rs 16 to 19 lakh, you're not only getting popular features but also a bigger car overall.
The AX5 does have a lot of extra features to offer, but people with a budget under Rs 20 lakh can definitely check out this trim. A positive point of the AX5 Select is that it is only available with a 7-seat option. Clearly, more seats are always a good point.

Verdict
So, the AX5 Select turns out to be the trim that offers better value for money. At a lower price, Mahindra is still offering a good number of features, and they have strategically placed it right behind the AX5. People who want a large SUV under the budget of Rs 20 lakh, which also comes with modern features, should definitely check this out.
To add more, I think the best deal here is the petrol automatic variant of the AX5 Select, which costs Rs 18.49 lakhs. The real pleasure of driving the XUV700 comes with the automatic transmission.
