The Mahindra XUV700 took the Indian automotive market by storm when it was launched in 2021. Mahindra and Mahindra really put everything behind it after unveiling it, and within one minute of its booking, 25,000 units of the SUV were locked. The waiting periods were longer than eternity, but people were ready because they wanted a large full-size SUV parked outside their house, which elevated their status in society.
Now, it's been three years, and the competitors have pulled up their socks and received big facelifts. So, does buying the XUV700 in 2024 still make sense? That is what I will try to find out here, with its pros and cons, and tell you what new things come with the 2024 update.

Pros of Mahindra XUV700
Road Presence
If you observe it for quite some time, you'll notice how timeless it is. The design, even after three years, remains the same and still looks so fresh. Other manufacturers are giving major styling updates in the name of facelifts, but honestly, Mahindra doesn't need it because the XUV700 is a fantastic looker from every angle. Plus, its road presence is much better than some high-end luxury cars.
6 Trim Option
The starting price of the Mahindra XUV700 is Rs 13.99 lakh for the MX trim of the petrol variant. After that, there are five more trims, with the top model AX7 L costing Rs 26.04 lakh. With two engine options and two transmission options available, people even with a lower budget can closely examine the trims and select the perfect one for themselves. A few months back, Mahindra launched a special trim called AX5 Select, which promises to offer better value for money than the higher AX5 model.
Driveability
Mahindra and Mahindra have outdone themselves when it comes to the ride and handling of this car. It drives smoothly on every terrain and allows all the passengers to travel more than 10 hours comfortably in a day. Also, the handling is very good, considering it's a fully grown SUV. The manufacturer understood the assignment here and delivered one of the most comfortable cars on Indian roads.
Powerful Engines
We all have seen those videos on YouTube, where an XUV700 sprints ahead of Mercedes GLE in the long run, and that's because of its powerful diesel engine, that puts out 450 Nm of torque. So, it is evident that XUV700 is a one hell of a machine. To be specific, there are two turbocharged engines. One is a petrol with 2.0 L with 199 Ps and 380 Nm of torque, available with 6-MT and 6-AT.
The second one is a 2.2L turbo diesel, and it is offered in two variants. The first one makes 154 PS and 360 Nm of torque, and the second one makes 184 PS and 420 Nm with a 6-speed manual and 450 Nm with a 6-speed automatic. Also, it is avaialbe with AWD option, and 4-driving modes.
High Resale Value
Recently, it achieved another milestone of 200,000 units produced in just three years. People still get their XUV700 in 3 to 4 months, depending on the variant, and the resale value of this vehicle is as high as that of any new car. If you search for a second-hand XUV700, you won't find it easily because, wherever it gets placed in the market, within a few hours or days, someone takes it. Almost every Mahindra car comes with great resale value, but this one really hits the ball out of the park.
Loaded With Features
It's a known fact how feature-rich the XUV700 really is, and for the 2024 update, Mahindra has installed some more features that were missing earlier. These include front ventilated seats, rear captain seats, a driver memory package, and 13 new functions in the 10.25-inch infotainment display.
Cons of Mahindra XUV700
Fuel Economy
Even the 2024 update couldnt solve the issue of mileage on the XUV700. The turbo petrol engine, with both transmissions, offers around 12 to 13 kmpl on the highway and about 8 to 9 kmpl in the city, which results in high fuel costs. Additionally, the diesel turbo's ARAI mileage is 17 kmpl with the manual transmission and 16.5 kmpl with the automatic. However, in the real world, the situation is quite different, as it hardly reaches those numbers, leading to more frequent visits to the fuel station.
Quality of Buttons and Switches
With a piano black finish, the buttons on the steering wheel and the center console dont feel as firm or weighty as the rest of the components. This is a letdown, especially for such an expensive car. Additionally, the central area, which is covered in shiny black plastic, gets dirty easily and requires frequent cleaning.
Ventilated Seats
It's good news that the XUV700 has front ventilated seats, but the operation of this feature is controlled through the infotainment screen. This is a big hassle because, if you want to use it while driving, it becomes a task to start the ventilation. On the other hand, almost every other vehicle provides dedicated switches, making it a two-second task. That said, Mahindra should have done the same with it.
360-Degree Camera
Although the XUV700 comes with a 360-degree surround view, the quality of the camera is below average. It really feels like an idea that was implemented later. Even the blind spot monitor doesnt provide much assistance, and the 360-camera is best described as useless at night.

Verdict
So, these are the pros and cons of buying the Mahindra XUV700. To be honest, its hard to find flaws in the vehicle because, as we all know, nothing in life is perfect, and you will find minor errors even in a Rs 5 crore car. However, the XUV700 engineers have created a marvelous vehicle that is very close to being an all-rounder. If you are planning to buy this, I hope these pros and cons will help you.
