Design
The new-gen Maruti Ertiga carries over a similar design language as its predecessor with some noticeable upgrades on the outside. The MPV now gets a bolder chrome-finished grille and sleeker headlamps. Also, there are projector headlamps on offer on the higher trims. At the rear, there are refreshed tail lamps and bumper. All these design elements enhance the overall look of the Ertiga MPV.
Competition check: When compared to rivals like the Kia Carens, the Ertiga seems lacklustre in terms of design. The Kia Carens gets a more premium and modern-looking exterior than the Maruti's MPV.
Interiors
The new-gen Ertiga has also received some notable upgrades inside the cabin. The new dashboard has a metallic teak wood finish and you also get a dual-tone fabric upholstery. The automaker also offers captain seats for the second row in the selected trims which provides a great level of comfort to the passengers. Also, there is an updated instrument cluster on offer with the new Ertiga.
Competition check: With the recent update, the Ertiga has become a more comfortable and convenient MPV. However, it still struggles to compete with the Kia Carens because the South Korean MPV offers a better set of features and more premium interiors.
Features
The top-end ZXi+ variant of the Ertiga comes with a 7-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system which now has improved graphics. The provided unit supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, offering better connectivity on the go. Additionally, the new-gen Ertiga gets improved telematics that offers more than 40 safety and security-oriented features.
Suzuki Connect: The new Ertiga also offers a host of convenience features via Suzuki's own connected car tech, namely Suzuki Connect. This connected car tech enables features such as door lock/unlock, geo-fencing and vehicle tracking. Apart from this, the Ertiga owners can also access various information such as driving analytics, vehicle health information and emergency assistance services.
Competition check: While the Ertiga's new set of advanced features can't be ignored, the MPV doesn't match the level of convenience provided by its rivals. The Kia Carens offers a bigger infotainment system with more high-tech features.
Maruti Ertiga: Powertrain and Transmission
The new-gen Ertiga sources its power from a K-series 1.5L Dual Jet engine which provides a more refined driving experience. The powerhouse on offer generates a maximum power of 103 bhp and 136.8 Nm of torque. For transmission, there is a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, too with paddle shifters. The new Ertiga is on offer with both petrol and CNG options which provide a fuel efficiency of 20.51 kmpl and 26.11 km/kg respectively.
Competition check: However, the new Ertiga sets a benchmark when it comes to power. But it misses out on the turbocharged petrol and diesel units that are offered with the Kia Carens.
Maruti Ertiga: High on Safety
The new Ertiga is high on safety with features like the 4 airbags and Hill-hold assist, rear parking sensors and ABS with EBD. Additionally, there are ISOFIX child seat mounts, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminders and a speed alert. The new set of safety features on the MPV provides enhanced safety and peace of mind.
Competition check: In terms of safety, the new Ertiga matches the level of its competitor. But it still lacks some crucial features such as six airbags and a 360-degree camera even in the top-end model.
