Nissan X-Trail: Design and Dimensions
The all-new X-Trail comes based on the CMF-C platform. Though in India, we get a sole 7-seater variant, it is available in both 5-seater and 7-seater versions internationally since 2021. In terms of design, the X-Trail with its differentiating "V-Motion" grille which is finished in dark chrome. Apart from this, there are round-shaped wheel arches with plastic cladding, diamond-cut alloy wheels and wrap-around LED tail lamps.
The all-new Nissan X-Trail has been positioned in the full-size SUV segment. It measures 4680mm in length, 1840 in width and 1755mm in height and the wheelbase is 2705mm long. This shows that this SUV doesn't stand well in front of its rivals in terms of size.
Competition check: In terms of size, the Nissan X-Trail has no advantage over its rivals as some of its rivals like the Fortuner and Gloster are much bigger in dimensions.
Nissan X-Trail Interiors
The Nissan X-Tril interior looks a bit upmarket or premium when compared to its rivals. All in all, Nissan has done a good job by using premium materials all around the cabin. You are not going to face any space issues because there is a decent amount of space in the middle row and the third row as well. The X-Trail. Also, there is so much storage in the front row which makes this car more practical.
Competition check: Launched in the SUV category, the new X-Trail comes with slightly better interiors when compared to its rivals. However, there is no big difference in the overall quality and this is not going to be a big wow factor for this SUV.
Nissan X-Trail Convenience Features
The India-spec X-Trail has features such as an 8-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, keyless entry, and idle start/stop button. Additionally, it gets drive modes, cruise control and electronic parking brake and paddle shifters.
Competition check- I would not prefer to say that the new X-Trail is loaded with features inside the cabin. This is because it just offers basic features which should be there at this price point. Some of the straight rivals like the VW Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq leave this SUV far behind when it comes to features. So, you can think of them as well.
Nissan X-Trail Safety Features
The Nissan X-Trail offers best-in-class safety with features such as 7 airbags, auto-hold electric parking brake, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera. Additionally, there are other features on offer like ABS with EBD. a limited slip diff, traction control, front parking sensor and hill-start assist.
Competition check: The Nissan X-Trail has nothing special to offer when it comes to safety features. Its rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tiguan get a better safety kit with features such as ADAS tech (Tigaun) and nine airbags (Kodiaq).
Nissan X-Trail Powertrain
The Nissan X-Trail comes equipped with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol unit, paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system. This setup makes 163 bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque in a combined manner. For transmission duties, there is a shift-by-wire CVT automatic unit on offer with the SUV. After driving the new X-Trail, we came to know that the engine on offer with the SUV is slightly underpowered and struggles at high revs.
Competition check: The new X-Trail gets a 1500cc 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and this is really not what we expect from a proper SUV. After driving this car, we realized that the powerhouse feels underpowered on high revs when compared with its rivals. This can't be Nissan's answer to the Fortuner's 2.8-litre engine (204 PS/500 Nm) and the Kodiaq's 2-litre turbo petrol unit that makes 190 bhp and 320 Nm of torque.

Verdict
The all-new Nissan X-Trail gets a decent design, premium interiors, and essential convenience features. However, it struggles against competitors like the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq in terms of size, feature richness, and engine performance. While it boasts decent safety features, the X-Trail doesn't quite match up to its established rivals in the SUV segment. Another disadvantage for this SUV is going to be its price which is much higher for what it has to offer.
