10 Hatchbacks With Biggest Boot Space - Renault Kwid to Maruti Baleno

Hatchbacks are the most sold car body styles in India. Their compact design makes it easy to live with and manoeuvre through tight traffic situations without much hassle. So, keeping their feasibility in mind, automakers in India has classified this segment into different categories with several cars.

The hatchback segment starts off with the likes of Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki Alto. Both of these are entry-level hatchbacks. This is followed by the sub-5 lakh segment which features the WagonR, S Presso, Hyundai Santro, and the Maruti Celerio, to name a few. Then comes the mid-hatchback segment which is comprised of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and the Tata Tiago etc. And at the top of it, all are premium hatchbacks which are comprised of the Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai i20.

However, due to its inherent design, the boot space sometimes gets compromised, and hence a major part of their practicality goes for a toss. So, to come up with a design that is spacious as well as compact, automakers took this as a challenge to push the limits/boot space. So, heres a list of hatchbacks that might be small, but gets an equally spacious boot space as well:

Hatchbacks With Biggest Boot Space

Renault Kwid (Boot Space - 300 litres)

Renaults entry-level hatchback has garnered quite the attention to itself with a striking exterior design. And with a 2422 mm sized wheelbase, this small hatchback gets a pretty spacious interior. Hence, it also gets the bigger boot space at 300 litres, which makes it a segment leader.

Datsun RediGo (Boot Space - 222 litres)

The second car in our list of hatchbacks with biggest boot space is a car that will surprise you. Small on the outside, the Datsun RediGo is big on the inside. It shares the same platform as the Renault Kwid, and that helps its case with practicality. For the Datsun, RediGo gets the second most spacious boot space in its segment at 222 litres.

Maruti WagonR 1.0 (Boot Space -  341 litres)

The Maruti WagonR is one of the longest production Maruti models still available. Its boxy design makes it spacious and at the same time with more than sufficient headroom space. The same goes for its boot space as well, which at 341 litres is class-leading in its segment. No wonder, the WagonR sells so much in India.

Hyundai Santro (Boot Space -  240 litres)

The Santro has been Hyundai most popular car up to date. It single-handedly established Hyundai as a household. It was discontinued for quite a number of years in the middle, but now the Santro is back with an upgraded design and platform. And now in its new avatar, it gets 240 litres of boot space, which might not be class-leading, but is pretty spacious in that manner.

Datsun Go Plus (Boot space with the third row folded - 347 litres)

Unlike the Datsun RediGo, the Datsun Go Plus features the mid-hatchback section and it comes with three rows of seating. Though the third row is well suited for small adults and children, it also works as n extra luggage space. And with that third row down, the Datsun Go Plus gets 347-litres of boot space which makes it one of the most spacious in the mid-hatchback segment.

Maruti Swift (Boot space -  268 litres)

Another popular model our list of hatchbacks with biggest boot space is the Maruti Swift, which was an instant hit when it was launched. Not only was it fun and engaging to drive, it is equally spacious and big. However, with the competition expanding rapidly, e Swift now feels lacklustre. Its boot space might be big at 268-litres, but when seen in comparison with other cars, it doesnt feel so.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios (Boot space -  260-litres)

For a mid hatchback model, the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS looks small when parked beside the Swift. And that smaller dimension gets reflected in its 260-litre boot space, which is not the most, but it is more than the space offered with the Tata Tiago and Ford Figo.

Honda Jazz (Bootpace -  354 litres)

Premium Hatchbacks like the Honda Jazz are bigger in size that makes way for a spacious interior. This is why their boot space is also bigger, and the Jazz with its 354 litres is the segment leader which makes it one of the most practical options also.

Tata Altroz (Boot space 345-litres)

The Tata Altroz has earned quite the name for itself, and most of the credit goes to the versatile ALFA architecture that it sits on. With this platform, the Altroz gets a spacious 345-litres of space, and that makes a very practical option as well. And if the conservative design of the Honda Jazz does not appeal to your taste, then the Altroz might just fit your bill.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno (Boot space: 339-litres)

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is one of the most sold premium hatchback models. Part of the reason has to be its spacious interior, which also comes with 339-litres of boot space. It might lose out to the Honda Jazz. But it leaves the Honda with frugal mileage figures and better after-sales.
