India's first 100 Octane petrol, the XP100 has been launched in the country by Indian oil. The high-quality XP100 fuel is now the fuel that is sold with the highest Octane number. This fuel will be sold across the country by Indian oil and has been priced at Rs 160 per litre at the time of the launch. High-end and premium vehicles that have been imported into the country run more efficiently on this type of fuel. Earlier, Hindustan Petroleum was selling Power 99 which had an Octane rating of 99. The Power 99 is currently on sale is select Hindustan petroleum outlets.
With the price of the fuel being set at Rs 160 per litre in Delhi, the XP100 is almost Rs 78 more expensive when compared to the standard 91 Octane petrol which is currently priced at Rs 82.34 per litre. With this being said, in the first phase, the XP100 petrol will be sold at select outlets across 10 cities which include Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Agra, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, and Ludhiana. In the second phase, the XP100 oil will be sold in 5 mode cities. These cities happen to be Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, and Bhubaneswar.

As per Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil, XP100 is an ultra-modern ultra-premium fuel which will deliver breath-taking performance. He further added that this is the finest grade of petrol available in the country and will help you extract higher power and performance from the vehicle. The XP100 will be produced at Indian Oil's Mathura refinery and Indian Oil will be using its indigenous OCTAMAX technology for the refining process. The XP100 oil is currently being sold only in select countries like USA and Germany.
Fuel with a higher Octane number is believed to prevent engine knocking and thus improve the overall engine life by ensuring better engine health. While the standard 91 Octane petrol runs without any issues in normal vehicles, the high-performance luxury vehicles may not run effectively on these type of fuel.
