Adventure Touring Motorcycles are getting really very popular in the Indian market. Hero Impulse was the first such affordable motorcycle to be introduced in India but it never pulled off. Then came the Royal Enfield Himalayan which gained high popularity. Last year, the Hero Xpulse 200 was also launched in India and it became the most affordable dual-purpose motorcycle to be sold in the country. But, we Indians always wanted more, a big and a powerful machine and KTM gave us just that. Recently, the Austrian manufacturer launched its first travel-enduro motorcycle in India. So, today we have for you the First Look Review of this new 2020 KTM 390 Adventure BS6.

2020 KTM 390 Adventure BS6: Overview

The KTM 390 Adventure is the first touring-focused motorcycle from the Austrian manufacturer in India. It made its first public debut last year at the world's most famous exhibition dedicated to two wheels i.e. at the EICMA 2019 held in Milan, Italy. Later, it was showcased in India at the India Bike Week in December 2019 held at Goa. The motorcycle was finally launched in the Indian market in January 2020. It was launched at a very attractive price and it was a rejoicing moment for the KTM fans. The KTM 390 Adventure is currently the flagship KTM one can get in India.

2020 KTM 390 Adventure: Looks, Dimensions and Colour Options

The KTM 390 Adventure has a hulking presence on the road and this orange beast really looks very attractive. Upfront, the motorcycle gets an all-LED headlamp just like the Duke 390 but the casing is a bit different. It also gets daytime running LEDs and a manually adjustable visor. Coming to the side profile, this is where you can feel the length of the motorcycle. The KTM 390 Adventure is a long motorcycle and it gets sharp tank extensions and a muscular fuel tank. It also gets a bash-plate to protect the engine and a chunky exhaust. At the rear, it gets a split grab rail, a unique LED taillamp and also LED turn indicators.

Talking about dimensions, so the KTM 390 Adventure measures 2154 mm in length, 900 mm in width and 1400 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 1430 mm and the saddle height (seat-height) stands at 855 mm. Mind you, this is one of the tallest motorcycles in its class and is definitely not for short riders. It weighs around 162 kilograms and it has a fuel tank capacity of 14.5-litres, which is decent as it will offer a good riding range. The 390 Adventure has an excellent minimum ground clearance of 200 mm. It is available in two colour variants - White and Orange.

2020 KTM 390 Adventure BS6: Engine, Transmission and Mileage

The KTM 390 Adventure is powered by a BS6-compliant 373.2cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine. This is the same motor that also does its duty in the Duke 390. It churns out 43.5 PS of power at 9000 RPM and 37 Nm of torque at 7000 RPM. The engine comes coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 390 Adventure produces the same power and torque figures like the Duke 390 but the motor has been tuned to offer better low-end performance than the Duke. The KTM 390 Adventure delivers around 30-35 kmpl of mileage in real-world conditions. 2020 KTM 390 Adventure: Tyres, Brakes and Features

The KTM 390 Adventure gets Metzeler Tourance tubeless tyres. The front tyre of the motorcycle measures 100/90-19 while the rear one is a 130/80 section 17-inch unit. The suspension duties are handled by WP Apex 43mm upside-down (USD) forks at the front and a pre-load adjustable mono-shock absorber at the rear. It gets a 320 mm disc at the front and a 230 mm disc at the rear. It features dual-channel ABS as an additional safety aid. It also gets off-road ABS which turns off the ABS on the rear wheel.

Some other features include a Cornering ABS, slipper clutch, bi-directional quickshifter and Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) which works according to the lean angle of the rear wheel. It also gets a 5.0-inch TFT instrument cluster that displays a ton of information including digital speedometer, tachometer, trip meters, clock, etc. The instrument cluster also gets a night mode and it can be toggled via the buttons present on the left handlebar.

The KTM 390 Adventure BS6 is priced at Rs. 3.05 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. Finally, talking about the verdict, so if you want a stunning-looking touring motorcycle with a punchy engine, decent mileage, top-notch features and a host of electronic aids at a relatively affordable price, then you should definitely consider buying the new KTM 390 Adventure. It rivals the Royal Enfield Himalayan, BMW G310 GS and also the Hero Xpulse 200 BS6 (though indirectly).
