Mahindra Thar is one of the most anticipated (real) SUVs of recent times. The new-generation Thar has been spied on test in India multiple times. It was expected to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. However, that didn't happen. Mahindra has been procrastinating the launch of the new-gen Thar due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic. But now, the wait is finally over! Mahindra will unveil the new-generation Thar really soon. According to the latest reports, the new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar will make its India Premiere on August 15, 2020.
Recently, Mahindra has sent the answers of some FAQs to its dealerships across the country. This FAQ list is a part of the pre-unveil teaser campaign of the Thar. The release sent to the Mahindra dealerships lists an FAQ that asks when is the launch of the all-new Thar? Mahindra officially replied to this and said that the all-new Thar will be unveiled on August 15, 2020, through a live webcast. This will be a virtual unveiling event and not a launch event. So, the price of the SUV and other details related to the bookings, deliveries and the test drives will be shared at a later point of time.
The Mahindra Thar is a real SUV and is known for its great off-roading capabilities. The first-gen Thar certainly missed out creature comfort features and had some niggles. Mahindra understood the shortcomings of this capable SUV and the new-generation Thar will be leaps and bounds better than its predecessor. Mahindra says that the all-new Thar will be a quantum leap in terms of technology, comfort and safety features. Also, all these criteria will be fulfilled without compromising on the Thar's core promise which is its legendary off-road capability and iconic design.

The new 2020 Mahindra Thar will be based on the new ZEN3 ladder-frame chassis. It is the same platform which also underpins the current-gen Scorpio and the TUV 300. The new Thar will retain its iconic boxy silhouette but will get new-age technology and features. It will also feature a completely refreshed interior with a host of new features. The new-gen Thar will be powered by a BS6-compliant version of Mahindra's tried-and-tested 2.2-litre diesel engine. This oil-burner will churn out 140 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with a low-ratio gearbox. The new-gen Thar will also get Diesel AT and a Petrol engine in the future.
The new-generation 2020 Mahindra Thar will make its India Premiere on the 15th of August, 2020. The Thar also serves the Indian Armed Forces and so there couldn't have been a better day to unveil the all-new Thar. It is expected to hit the showrooms floor by the festive season of this year. We expect that the new 2020 Mahindra Thar will be priced around Rs. 10 lakhs - Rs. 12 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. Once launched, it will show its 4x4 capabilities and off-road prowess to its rivals which include the upcoming Force Gurkha BS6 and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny (Gypsy).
