Skoda is currently leading the India 2.0 strategy for the whole Volkswagen Group. Under the new strategy, the group will launch a slew of new cars and will also develop an India-specific platform to launch affordable, more competitively priced vehicles in the Indian market. Skoda will soon launch its mid-size SUV in the Indian market that will become the brand's entry-level SUV in the market. What are the five things that you should know about the upcoming 2020 Skoda Karoq?
Fully imported CBU
The Karoq is based on the high-end MQB platform that also underpins the vehicles like Kodiaq, Superb, Tiguan, T-Roc and more cars in India. The Karoq will not be a high volume product and it will be launched to create a model-line up before the Indian spec MQB-A0-IN platform gets ready. It will be a fully imported CBU unit and most likely Skoda will limit the sales to 2,000 units per year to take advantage of the homologation rules.
Single engine-transmission
Skoda will launch the all-new Karoq with only a single engine and transmission option. It will get powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing a maximum power of 148 Bhp. Skoda will not offer a manual transmission with the car. Instead, a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission will be available as standard. It will be an FWD only.
9 airbags
The 2020 Skoda Karoq has a 5-star safety rating from the Euro NCAP. While the Indian version will be slightly different, it will be loaded with safety including 9 airbags! It will be one of the most loaded vehicles in the segment. The Karoq will also offer a range of high-end safety features but the Euro-spec features like Automatic Emergency Braking will not be available in India.
Loaded with features
The all-new Karoq will come equipped with features like Virtual Cockpit digital instrument, 17-inch alloy wheels, full-LED headlamps, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control system, 12-way electrically-controlled driver seat, leather seats, panoramic sunroof, ambient lights and much more. Skoda has always offered a long list of features and the Karoq will not be any different.
Deliveries start on 6th May
Skoda started accepting the bookings for the Karoq officially a few weeks back. The manufacturer will start the deliveries on 6th May. Since it is a CBU vehicle, the price will on the high side and it is expected to get a price tag of Rs 20 lakhs and will take on the likes of Hyundai Tuscon and Jeep Compass in the Indian market.
