The current generation Fortuner made its debut in 2015 and India saw its launch in 2016. Now, new spy shots of the same are surfacing the Internet and it looks like, a mid-life facelift of the Toyota Fortuner is in place for launch in 2020.
2020 Toyota Fortuner facelift retains its butchy stance with the tall design. Although the spy shot is heavily camouflaged, we can spot some details as what is changed with the upcoming SUV. The facelifted model sees a restyled front fascia.
The grille is expected to be replaced with a single sleek chrome unit and the bumper will also see a new design. The foglights too will be restyled and this time can it can come with a horizontal insert, the one we've seen with TRD Sportivo.

With the facelift model, the headlights and taillights will also see a reworked design. The side profile would be more or less the same and there might be new alloy wheels with the SUV. The body cladding could also see a reworked and we expect new paint schemes.
We are yet to receive the changes on the interiors of the facelifted Fortuner but expect an improved infotainment screen. A new set of speakers could also debut with the Fortuner facelift. The cabin will see minor changes and it'll be refreshing to see a new dual-colour scheme to the interiors.
Under the hood, Toyota Fortuner is sold with multiple engines globally. The petrol comes tuned to 2.7L and 4.0L while the oil burner sticks itself to a 2.4L, 2.8L and 3.0L displacements. In India, we only get a 2.7L petrol and a 2.8L diesel engine and that too in BS4 form.
With the new emission norms kicking in, we expect the engines to be tuned to BS6. The 2.7L petrol comes in the Innova too and has been tuned to the latest emission norms. And the manufacturer has ditched the bigger 2.8L and continued with the 2.4L diesel engine in BS6 form.

So we are not sure if Toyota will tune the 2.8L diesel found in Fortuner to BS6 form or bring in a smaller 2.4L motor which is used in Innova. The 2.4L diesel engine from Innova produces 147 bhp with a peak torque of 353 Nm. Of course, if this engine comes in the Fortuner then it'll be tuned to make higher power output.
The smaller engine won't be a problem as it's rival Ford Endeavour too might ditch its current 2.2L and 3.0L diesel engines. If reports are to be believed then a 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel engine will do duty on the Ford Endeavour. This engine will churn out 210 bhp and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. It is said to have a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
The ongoing model of the Fortuner sells at a price of Rs 28.16 lakh for the base petrol model and the top-spec is priced at a premium of Rs 34.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With the facelift and new engine options, we expect the price of the Fortuner to see a significant high. The SUV competes with the likes of Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4, Isuzu MU-X, Honda CR-V and Skoda Kodiaq.
