UPDATED --> Bikes now launched at Rs 2.45 lakh. Have a look!
BMW Motorrad launched the G310 Twins in India in the year 2018 and it became an instant hit. The BMW G310 R and the BMW G310 GS went on to become the most affordable BMW Motorcycles in the country. The G310 Twins made the BMW Brand more accessible in India and the Indian audience accepted them wholeheartedly. In the first quarter of 2020, the company sold over 800 units of the G310 Twins, contributing to over 80 per cent to the company's overall motorcycle sales in India. However, these motorcycles are no longer on sale as they aren't BS6-compliant yet. BMW Motorrad will soon launch the BS6 iterations of these motorcycles. The new 2021 BMW G310 R and G310 GS BS6 have been now spied on test in India. Read more details about these motorcycles in this World Exclusive report.
First of all, let me give you a quick history of the BMW G310 Twins in India. So, the G310 Twins were the first made-in-India BMW Motorcycles. BMW Motorrad formed an alliance with TVS Motor Company back in 2013 and these were the first products under their partnership (launched in mid-2018). The BMW G310 twins and the TVS Apache RR 310 were co-developed under this alliance in which the designs and developments were majorly done by BMW while the production facility took place at TVS' Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. The G310 R and the G310 GS are manufactured in India and are then exported all over the world.
Coming back to the spied models, so the new BS6-compliant versions of the BMW G310 Twins were spied this afternoon in Gurgaon. If you remember, a few weeks ago, these motorcycles were also spied testing in Europe. The new G310 R gets a revised front fascia and it now features an all-LED headlamp with LED turn indicators and it also gets a LED taillamp. The motorcycle features a muscular fuel tank, revised tank extensions, radiator shrouds and belly pan. Overall, the motorcycle looks more striking than before, thanks to the cuts, creases and sharp lines flowing on the body panels.
The other cycle parts of this motorcycle are borrowed from the old G310 R and it gets golden-coloured front forks, five-spoke alloy wheels, disc brakes at both the ends with dual-channel ABS, etc. However, if you are gifted with keen eyes, you can notice that the new G310 R gets an exposed frame which is now finished in the red colour. These minute details make the motorcycle look much better than before. The G310 R, as well as the G310 GS, will now also get a new matte black variant (which was spied during the test) and it definitely looks very attractive.

Now, coming to the G310 GS. So, the BMW G310 GS is an adventure-touring variant of the naked G310 R. Like the new upcoming G310 R, it also gets a sleeker and more sporty stance than before. It will feature new all-LED headlamps, revised bikini fairing which looks sharper than the outgoing model. The G310 R has an aggressive sitting posture with rear-set footpegs and raised-down handlebar. The G310 GS, on the other hand, gets centre-set footpegs, high-raised handlebar with a small visor and has a more relaxed sitting posture. The G310 R runs on road-spec tyres while the adventure-tourer comes shod in dual-purpose rubbers. Both the motorcycles will also get an all-digital instrument cluster with minor tweaks.
The BMW G310 twins share its powerplant with TVS' flagship motorcycle, the Apache RR 310. The Apache RR 310 is powered by a BS6-compliant 312cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 34 PS of power at 9700 RPM and 27.3 Nm of torque at 7700 RPM. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox and gets a slipper clutch as standard. We expect the G310 R and the G310 GS to feature the same engine with identical tuning. However, the G310 GS could be tuned slightly different as it is a touring machine. This time BMW can also add a quick shifter and slipper clutch on these motorcycles but it isn't officially confirmed yet.
The new 2021 BMW G310 R and the BMW G310 GS BS6 is expected to hit the Indian showrooms by the end of August this year. The BS4-compliant G310 Twins were priced between Rs 2.99 lakhs - Rs. 3.49 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. However, according to the latest reports, the BS6-compliant G310 Twins will be priced significantly lower than the BS4 models and will now undercut the price of all its rivals. BMW G310 R BS6 is asserted to be priced at Rs. 2.40 lakhs while the BMW G310 GS BS6 is likely to be priced at Rs. 2.90 lakhs. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi. Once launched, it will rival against the KTM Duke 390, KTM 390 Adventure and the TVS Apache RR 310.
