The BS6 Gurkha was previewed by Force Motors during the Auto Expo earlier this year. However soon after the expo, the pandemic wreaked havoc across the country which meant OEMs had to delay their upcoming launches. However, recently a Force Gurkha in a Lower spec was spied testing.
The picture comes courtesy of casualfotographie who posted this picture to his Instagram account. While the picture does not seem to reveal too many details, it does show that Gurkha mule captured on camera came with steel wheels and black colour grille and bumpers which give indications of the car on test being a lower specced variant.
While the overall design of the SUV does not stray from the original philosophy that it carries, subtle updates will be made so that it can keep up with the competition. Competing mainly with the Mahindra Thar, the Gurkha is expected to receive a new interior layout that will be a lot more ergonomically sorted and will have features such as touchscreen infotainment, better-placed controls etc.

While some creature comforts will be added, the Gurkha is expected to remain true to the raw and rugged roots that gave it a segment of its own in the first place. In the BS4 guise, there were two engines that powered the Gurkha. The base engine was 2.6 litre Mercedes Benz sourced diesel engine that put out 80.9 Bhp @ 3200 rpm and 230 Nm @ 1800 rpm. There was also a more powerful variant of the Gurkha that was powered by a 2.2 litre Diesel engine which was also sourced from Mercedes Benz that put out 140 bhp @ 3800 rpm and 321 Nm @ 1600 rpm. Both the engines were mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. A transfer case with locking differential was standard which added to the offroad credentials of the car.

This Force Gurkha lower spec which was spied testing is expected to go up against the Mahindra Thar AX variant and AX (O) variant and the lower variants of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Pricing is expected to be in the ballpark of 8-13 lakh rupees ( ex-showroom).
