Morris Garages entered the Indian market in the year 2019 with its Hector SUV and the company tasted instant success. MG Hector earned plenty of admirers and also lured the Indian car buyers to get one for themselves. After the bumper success of the Hector SUV and the ZS EV, the carmaker wanted to show its real-prowess at the 2020 Auto Expo. MG showcased its global portfolio at the biennial event and grabbed everybody's attention on the show floor. MG exhibited multiple products at the Auto Expo which include a hot sedan, a full-size SUV, a big premium MPV, and many more. The premium MPV showcased at the event recently received some updates in China and it is this MPV which will make its way to India next year. So, here we tell you everything about this new 2021 MG G10 MPV.
The MG G10 MPV is sold in China as the Maxus G10. For those who don't know, let me tell you that MG is a British-originated Chinese-owned car manufacturer, owned by SAIC. SAIC stands for Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. It is a Chinese state-owned automotive company which owns companies like MG, Maxus, Roewe and Yuejin. The MG G10 MPV showcased in India at the 2020 Auto Expo is essentially a re-badged Maxus G10. Maxus G10 has recently received mechanical updates in China with new petrol and diesel engine options. Also, it gets a new seating configuration and some minor revisions.
The Maxus G10 now complies with the new 6b emission norms that will come into effect in China from July 1, 2023. The Maxus G10 is now offered with 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a revised version of the older 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit while the 2.0-litre diesel engine replaces the older 1.9-litre oil-burner. The new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine churns out 224 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission. This gasoline unit produces almost identical figures as before but there is a big difference with the new oil-burner.

The Maxus G10 earlier used to get a 1.9-litre diesel engine that used to pump-out 150 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. It was on sale coupled to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The new 2.0-litre motor, on the other hand, churns out 163 PS of power (+13 PS than before) and 375 Nm of torque (+25 Nm than before). This new engine comes mated to a new automatic transmission too. It is now available with a 6-speed manual gearbox and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Apart from the addition of new engine and transmission, the MG G10 MPV (Maxus G10) also gets new seat fabrics. Moreover, the company has now started offering an 8-seater version too. Earlier it was available in 7-seater and 9-seater configurations only.
If we talk about dimensions, so the 2021 MG G10 MPV is a long MPV, really long! It is even longer than the recently launched Kia Carnival. The MPV measures 5168 mm in length, 1980 mm in width, 1928 mm in height and the wheelbase stands at 3210 mm. Talking about features, the MG G10 MPV gets features like smart automatic sliding doors, panoramic sunroof, touch-free smart sensing tail-gate, multi-zone climate system, etc. It also gets connectivity and infotainment features like a huge touchscreen unit and we expect that in India the MPV will get a host of internet-based connected car features too.
The MG G10 MPV will be launched in India in late 2021. Once launched, it will compete against the established players like the Toyota Innova Crysta and also recently launched Kia Carnival Premium MPV. The new refreshed Maxus G10 MPV has been just launched in China at a starting price of CNY 1,39,800 which roughly translates to around Rs. 14.96 lakhs, Ex-showroom. However, we expect that the starting price of the MG G10 MPV in India will be in the ballpark of Rs. 20 lakhs - Rs. 25 lakhs, Ex-showroom.
