2021 MG ZS Facelift Unveiled; Coming Soon To India?

MG Motors has just unveiled the new 2021 MG ZS Facelift in the United Kingdom. The new ZS Petrol SUV has been revealed and it sports subtle design changes and an upgraded interior. Morris Garages India has already showcased the new facelift model of the ZS Petrol SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. So, what are the changes in this new 2021 MG ZS Facelift and will it make its way to India? That's what we are gonna answer in this article.

First of all, talking about the changes, so the new facelifted ZS SUV gets a revised front fascia. Upfront, it gets a new blacked-out hexagonal grille with chrome surrounds. The front bumper has also been tweaked and it now gets an aluminium skid plate both at the front as well as at the rear to further enhance its appeal. The SUV sports all-LED lights with projector headlamps, hook-shaped DRLs and edgy design for the foglamp housing.

The side profile is almost similar to the outgoing model but it gets newly designed 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. At the rear, it gets a redesigned bumper and sports an integrated spoiler, sharkfin antenna and all-LED taillights. The SUV also gets roof rails and body-cladding all around to brush up its rugged aesthetic appeal. Overall, the new MG ZS Facelift does look better than the pre-lift model and will definitely attract a lot of buyers.

Talking about the interior, so the new ZS Facelift gets the same dashboard design as the outgoing model but sports new features. Taking the centre-stage of the dashboard is a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system (earlier it was equipped with an 8.0-inch unit). This system is compatible with both Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. Moreover, if the ZS Facelift is launched in India, it will get MG's i-Smart 2.0 connected car tech too.

MG says that the SUV now also gets some soft-touch materials to enhance the in-cabin experience. It also gets a ton of safety features which include ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors with a 360-degree parking camera, up to six airbags, blind-spot monitor, tyre-pressure monitoring system, ESP, hill launch assist, etc. However, we believe that the India-spec model won't get high-end safety equipment.

Talking about the engine options, in the UK, the ZS Facelift gets a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that churns out 106 PS of power and 141 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It also gets a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill that develops 111 PS of power and 160 Nm of torque. This engine comes paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In China, the ZS Petrol SUV gets a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Now, coming to our final question, will it come to India? So, according to a recent media report, MG Motors is evaluating the launch of the ZS Petrol SUV in India. In fact, to keep the costs in check, MG is looking for Indian vendors for the manufacturing process of the vehicle in India. If everything goes fine, MG will launch the ZS Facelift Petrol SUV in India in 2021. It will be positioned below the Hector to rival the likes of Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, etc. In other news, MG Motors will soon launch the Hector Plus SUV in India.
