Not only SUVs, but even large family vehicles have been are gaining popularity in the Indian car market in the past few years. The 6/7 seater segment has popular family offerings like the Maruti Ertiga, Nexa XL6 and the Innova Crysta. However, Toyota understands there is a huge vacuum in the Rs 12-18 lakh bracket and this where the made-for-India MPV comes into the picture. This could be largely based on the 2022 Toyota Avanza.
The company recently showcased the updated 2022 Toyota Avanza for the South East Asian markets. Though there is no word on its Indian launch, the company will be rolling out an all-new MPV next year. This will be positioned between the Ertiga/XL6 and the Innova Crysta and will also lock horns with the upcoming Kia Carens. The Innova has been a best-seller since day of its launch but too pricey for a lot of family buyers out there in the market.
The made for C-segment MPV has been codenamed 560B and will be based on Toyotas DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) - this is the same platform that the updated Avanza uses. Engine options for the Indian market could be limited to the 1.5-litre petrol that we see in the Urban Cruiser. It will get both manual as well as automatic gearbox options and possibly an updated SHVS (smart hybrid vehicle system) for added punch and better efficiency. Toyota will offer the vehicle in both 6 as well as 7 seater configurations. And safe to assume, they will pick a lot of features that we see on the new 2022 Toyota Avanza.
