The 2024 Maruti Swift is the 4th generation of the mid-size hatchback in India. It is more than just a facelift and Maruti has worked hard to improve it across most parameters. But is it the best Swift ever? Do we recommed this over other options? To answer this, here is our quick report on the Pros & Cons of the new Swift. But before we move forward, make sure to join our 91Wheels WhatsApp Group community of petrolheads to never miss out on any updates from the automotive world.
2024 Maruti Swift Pros
- Added Safety
The new Swift is a step up in terms of safety. 6 Airbags, ESC (electronic stability control) and Hill-hold assist are standard across all versions of the hatchback. Maruti understands this crucial step and we are also told that the car will fare very well in the BNCAP (Bharat NCAP) crash test ratings. Once they come out, the same will be upated here. - Increased fuel economy
The 2024 Swift gets an all-new 3 cylinder Z series petrol engine. With finer tuning, Maruti has been able to extract as much as 25.75kmpl as per ARAI certification. This is more than 10% over the earlier model and makes it the second most fuel efficient hatchback in the country. During our highway run at 75km/h, the Swift delivered an astonishing 32.8 kmpl. Don't belive me? Have a look HERE. - More Features
Over the years, Maruti has caught up with the competition when it comes to pampering owners and their families. The new Swift is no different, offering more features in the higher versions. For instance, rear AC vents for better comfort, front wireless charging for convenience, a better-looking speedometer console, revised suspension, 6 Airbags, a bigger 9-inch screen, better audio quality, etc. - Ease of driving
Although the 2024 Maruti Swift has the same platform as before, the suspension is all new and geared towards providing a comfortable ride. This was evident during our day long stint with the vehicle. Not only does the new Swift absorb undulations in a better way, there is hardly any suspension noise that intrudes into the cabin. This in turn lends a premium experience to the occupants. This combined with a light steering and excellent visibility make the 2024 Swift a joy to drive in urban conditions. - Styling
The Swift has always been known to be a sporty looking hatchback and the same DNA is retained in the 2024 model. It sits low and wide, has modern day lines and striking elements like a sporty bumper, front DRLs, LED tail lights etc. The overall profile is good enough and for the asking price, the Swift is one of the better looking cars in the market.
That said, all is not well with the new 2024 Swift. Prospective customers should be aware of a few shortcomings. What are these? Let's start right away.
2024 Maruti Swift Cons
- Pricing
At a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Swift is just Rs 17000 cheaper than the bigger Baleno. This minor difference in pricing is surprising, given that the Baleno belongs to a higher segment and has more space to offer. Likewise, compact SUVs like the Magnite and Kiger have a far lower starting price. This is where we feel Maruti could have offered a lower sticker price for the 2024 Swift - Engine Options
The 2024 Swift comes with just one engine option - a naturally aspirated petrol unit. As of now, there is no CNG option or a turbo alternative. The former is surprising given Maruti's hold in the CNG segment in India. - Performance
The new Swift retains its handling characteristic but sadly, the engine doesn't match up to the dynamics. Driven alone, the Swift is good enough for urban runs. However, with a load of passengers and their luggage and the air-con running, this new kid on the block will suffer form outright punch. A trade-off for lower emissions and higher efficiency, eh?

Verdict
In all, the new 2024 Swift is a great step ahead from its earlier version. It looks better, rides well, is feature loaded and comes with a very efficient heart. For an enthusiast, this might be a skip but for most buyers out there, the new Maruti Swift ticks the right boxes!
