Kia Carnival Unveiled: Evolved Aesthetics
The upcoming Kia Carnival sheds its skin, borrowing design cues from the Sorento and Seltos for a more rugged and contemporary look. Striking new headlights and taillights boast vertical elements, while a revised grille and revamped bumpers complete the bolder stance. For those seeking exclusivity, the "Dark Edition" ups the ante with darkened exterior trim. This makeover promises to turn heads in the family MPV segment.
Interior And Features
Step inside the refreshed Carnival and witness the subtle evolution. Borrowing the EV6's multi-function touchpad, the interior gains modern touches. Climate and infotainment shortcuts complement the retained "monolith" design, featuring standard digital instruments and a 4.2-inch info screen alongside a 12-inch touchscreen for infotainment (with dual 12.3-inch screens as an option).
A new infotainment system takes center stage, while passengers in the back can immerse themselves in content via twin 14.6-inch high-def screens. Convenience reigns with seven USB-C ports, phone-as-a-key functionality, and Kia's advanced highway driving assist system incorporating automated lane changes. This tech-savvy and comfort-focused interior elevates the Carnival experience.
Kia has prioritized safety features in the Carnival, including Highway Driving Assist, which integrates adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and lane-change assistance. Additionally, the Carnival is equipped with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, and Junction-Crossing Protection.
Powertrain: Hybrid Is Here
The major update comes in the form of a hybrid variant, a new addition to the lineup. Borrowed from the Kia Sportage and Sorento hybrids, this powertrain combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 72-horsepower electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 242 horsepower and around 367 Nm of torque. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, it powers the front wheels exclusively.
Alternatively, for those preferring a traditional setup, the 3.5-liter V6 engine from the previous model remains available, delivering 287 horsepower and 260 pound-feet (around 354 Nm) of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
The updated Kia Carnival is set to debut in the US market during the summer months, although its arrival date in India remains undisclosed. However, Kia has intentions to launch the new Carnival in India within 2024, indicating a potential presence on Indian roads in the coming months.
Verdict
The 2025 Kia Carnival roars back with a bolder design, a game-changing hybrid option, and tech upgrades inside and out. Borrowing the best from its siblings, this refreshed MPV promises a more modern look and a feature-packed cabin for both drivers and passengers. Whether you prioritize fuel efficiency, entertainment, or simply a stylish ride, the Carnival's improvements seem poised to shake up the family MPV segment.
