As Citroen aims for an February 1 launch its maiden product to kickstart its sales in India, here are 5 things that you need to know about the C5 AirCross.

1. To feature a completely imported engine
PSA Group ( also known as Stellantis post their merger with FCA Group) already manufactures the 1.5 Turbodiesel with CK Birla Group in India. However this engine will not make its way under the hood of the C5 AirCross. Instead the AirCross will come with a 2.0 litre turbodiesel unit that will be imported. This unit puts out 177 BHP and 400 Nm and is most likely to be mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox for our market.

2. Will come in only one Trim Level
Citroen has decided to bring in only trim level of the Aircross into our market and that would be top of the line variant. This means that there would be no or very limited form of feature removal for our market which would make the C5 AirCross a very well equipped car.
3. Will be loaded to the brim in terms of Features
The C5 AirCross which is sold internationally features a funky two tone dashboard which is the centrepiece of the interior. It gets a well equipped safety kit which includes multiple airbags, blind spot assist, smart headlamps with an auto high beam feature, attention assist, cross-traffic detection and hill-hold assist, among others. Additionally, it gets a an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an automatic AC, steering-mounted buttons and a digital instrument binnacle. Most of the features are expected to make their way into the Indian Spec C5 AirCross.
4. Competitors to the C5 Aircross
Being a premium SUV, the Citroen C5 AirCross will be competition with SUVs in the 20-30 lakh rupee segment. This segment will mainly include the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, VW Tiguan Allspace and the Skoda Kodiaq. To an extent, the Harrier and the higher trims of Seltos and Creta will be in consideration of the buyers who would be looking at the C5 AirCross

5. Dimensions
The C5 Aircross is 4500 mm long, 1840 mm wide and 1670 mm tall. The wheelbase measures in at 2730 mm. This means that the the C5 AirCross is 25 mm longer, 10mm taller and has a wheelbase that is 60 mm longer when compared to the Hyundai Tucson. With a ground clearance of 230 mm, the C5 AirCross sits up pretty high when compared to the rest of the competition.
So these were the 5 things about the C5 AirCross that we wanted to share with you. This car is going to be an important one for Citroen and PSA-FCA Group in general as they would be hoping for Citroen to establish itself as a dominant brand in the premium passenger vehicle segment.
Apart from the C5 AirCross which will be catering to a specific market audience, they will also be launching models that would be made for India and for other developing markets. Expect most of them to start landing on our shores from late 2021 onwards.
