Despite being a blockbuster launch for Mahindra, the ScorpioN has received a fair share of criticism regarding space management. To counter this criticism, the launch of a 5-seater Scorpio N makes a lot of sense. Here's why.
It will result in better space management
While the Scorpio N was praised for its improvements over its predecessor, it also received criticism for its lack of boot space and a cramped third row. The addition of a 5-seater option in all Scorpio N variants will make the vehicle even more appealing to prospective buyers who want a large boot but don't need a third row.
Better second-row space
By removing the third row and offering only 5 seats, Mahindra will be able to liberate more space in the second row as well. This would make the seating arrangement more comfortable and will make the SUV an appealing option for smaller families. Also, the loss of boot space will be marginal in such an arrangement.

Performance and Efficiency would be enhanced too
The Scorpio N with its turbo petrol and turbo diesel options is a solid performer. But a little bit more will do no harm. The removal of the last row will result in weight savings, but at the same time, it would result in an increase in performance along with an increase in fuel efficiency. And in today's times, every bit of extra efficiency matters.
Will be a more affordable option for buyers too
The removal of the last row and the offering of the Scorpio N in a 5-seater configuration alongside the 6 and 7-seater options will provide buyers with a more affordable option. This would increase the already large customer base for the Scorpio N.
It will open up new avenues in terms of competition
Mahindra has not really been able to crack the 5-seater SUV market and most of it has been due to the lack of a strong nameplate to pit against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The Scorpio N in its 5-seater guise would be the perfect product for Mahindra to make inroads in this segment. Not only the nameplate of the vehicle has a strong recall value, the bigger dimensions would appeal to a very large demographic. Offering a big SUV for a price that undercuts or is in line with other smaller vehicles such as Seltos and Creta will attract a lot of customers.

Also, the competent 2.0 mStallion turbo petrol engine of the Scorpio N might end up capturing some potential buyers of the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq if offered with the option of a 5-seater configuration. Sales of the Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass will too take a hit if a 5-seater Scorpio N is introduced.
