Aprilia RS 440 Test Bike Details
When Apilia's name is spoken, bikes like RS 660 & RS V4 plunge into mind. However, sadly, there is no affordable or entry-level sports bike from the company in India. Hence, to eliminate this, RS 440 will soon come into the picture. The test mule of which we're speaking about was spied near Aprilia's factory. The bike was completely covered but its design details got revealed partially. The front design mimics the RS 660 but the overall dimensions are obviously small. Additionally, the rider triangle looks a bit relaxed. The clip-on handlebar is rear-set. The footpegs look aptly placed for easy long-distance rides.
The headlight design also mimics the RS series sports bikes from Aprilia. The lights on it will be LED as we suspect from the spy images. Additionally, the swingarm design is also slim when compared to the RS 660. Meanwhile, other hardware includes a USD front suspension and a monoshock suspension at the rear. However, the alloy wheels design is nowhere near the current RS series lineup. We also anticipate that Aprilia will locally manufacture the bike to keep its costs low. It also uses a big fuel tank hence we can expect a long riding range. But, the most interesting bit of its design is the full body fairing that makes it appear bigger than its actual size.
Now, the main interesting part lies under its fuel tank. Yes, it's the engine. While there are no official details of it but we suspect it to be a 440cc unit. It will possibly be a parallel-twin engine and the peak power output will be somewhere in between 45-55 bhp. Additionally, it will get a 6-speed gearbox with features like a slipper-assist clutch too. Other features might include - a digital instrument panel, Bluetooth connectivity, riding modes, etc.
Verdict
While it is the first time that the RS 440 is spied on a test, we suspect that it will debut in the coming months. 18 months or so is the anticipated time that Aprilia might launch it in India. However, the main key is going to be its pricing because where it will be placed is going to be an interesting spot. It will be big enough to keep it above the KTM RC 390 but small enough to remain under Kawasaki Ninja 400. Hence, an expected price of Rs 4 lakh or something will be its sticker tag. Let's see where things go for it in the coming months.
