Ashok Leyland, the Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer will supply 200 trucks to the Government of Bangladesh as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's USD 2-billion line of credit.
According to Ashok Leyland, 135 constructed trucks have already been delivered to Bangladesh as part of the order. The company announced that it had won the Bangladesh government's tender for 135 fully-built vehicles, which included a 3T truck, hydraulic beam lifter, and sewerage sucker.

In the current fiscal year, these trucks have already been handed over to Bangladesh's Roads and Highways Department, according to the report. Ashok Leyland has been awarded another contract for 65 Truck Mounted Wreckers, a specialised vehicle that will be used by the Bangladesh government for various highway applications. Ashok Leyland considers Bangladesh as one of the most important export markets, and this supply enhances the brand position in the country even more. The Indian government's varied export liberalisation policies have piqued their interest.
The commercial vehicle brand intends to expand the volumes and footprint in international markets, particularly in the SAARC, GCC, and Africa. According to Amandeep Singh, head of Ashok Leyland's foreign unit, "exports have been a significant focus for us to de-risk from cyclicality in the Indian market."

Ashok Leyland is one of the biggest commercial vehicle brands in Bangladesh, with more than 50 touchpoints across the country. Apart from supplying trucks, the brand also has an assembly unit in Bangladesh. The assembly of Ashok Leylands range of trucks, buses, and LCV vehicles domestically at the IFAD Auto Dhamrai plant in Bangladesh.
