Bajaj Auto is making a comeback in the scooter segment next year. The much awaited Chetak electric will go on sale by mid Jan20 and deliveries will start in two cities of Pune and Bangalore. While pricing isnt out yet, here are five things you should know about the upcoming Bajaj Chetak Electric.
Pricing and deliveries
One of the last remaining pieces in the entire puzzle of Chetak electric is its pricing. Its only rival in India, given the specs, will be the Ather 450 which itself carries a price tag of Rs 1.22 lakh in Chennai and Rs 1.13 lakh in Bangalore. This gives us a fair estimate on the pricing of the Chetak electric which should be in the same range.
Deliveries will start by mid 2020 but will be limited to just two cities of Pune and Bangalore.
Heart of the matter
The Bajaj Chetak Electric will come with a 4kW electric motor that promises a range of as much as 95km depending on the riding mode you pick. This is better than Ather 450s range. Top speed hasnt been shared yet nor do we have any info on the acceleration part. Bajaj says the battery will require 5 hours for a full charge and just one hour for 25% charge up.
Feature loaded
A modern e-scooter is expected to be feature loaded and the Bajaj Chetak Electric will not be any different. A full LCD display with vital information, front disc brake, feather touch switch gear, full LED lighting, flush fitting rear pegs etc are some of the key highlights here. Further, contrast seat stitching and overall excellent build quality are also to be expected here.
Styling
The new Chetak has no similarity to the older version that once ruled the Indian two wheeler market. Instead, it has a classic retro charm in the way it looks. Infact, a lot of media houses linked it to some of the other similar styled scooters in India. We particularly like the round LED DRL in the headlamp and the curvy rear. Likewise, the black, 12-spoke rims look chic too.
The new transmission
This new scooter makes use of a swing-arm mounted motor. This powers the rear wheel through what is being pegged as a unique automatic transmission. Also, the digital display of the Chetak electric has a n or neutral light along with five 'level marks' next to it - these may change as per the throttle inputs which means these could be gears or steps!
It wont be wrong to say that the Bajaj Chetak Electric is one of the most anticipated two-wheelers of 2020 and for the right seasons! More details on their official website.
