The new BMW 8 Series was introduced in the global markets in 2019 and internationally the grand tourer is proffered in three different body styles Coupe, Convertible and Four-door Coupe (popularly known as Gran Coupe). However, for the Indian market, BMW is bringing the range-topping four-door Gran Coupe. Globally, the 8 Series Gran Coupe is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. However, it is assumed that India will get the 8 Series Gran Coupe only in the M840i variant.
The BMW M840i Gran Coupe will be powered by a BS6-compliant 3.0-litre, inline-six turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 340 PS of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just under 5 seconds. Also, while the diesel version 840d (its India launch is unlikely) gets BMW's famous xDrive system, the M840i gets only rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout. This M840i Gran Coupe will have five doors and an ample amount of space inside the cabin to comfortably seat five.
Now, talking about the gorgeous-looking M8 Coupe, it will be powered by a 4.4-litre, twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that churns out a staggering 600 PS of maximum power and 750 Nm of peak torque. It will be paired with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission coupled to an all-wheel-drive system as standard. BMW claims that the M8 Coupe can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 3.3 seconds. The top speed of this blistering car is electronically limited at 250 kmph but one can opt for the M Drivers Package and can boost the top speed to 305 kmph.
The bookings for these flagship Bimmers are already open for a long time and the deliveries will begin very soon. BMW India will launch it digitally on the 8th of May, 2020 and the prospective customers will be available to purchase it via the company's recently launched BMW Contactless Experience online sales & service platform. We expect that the price of BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe will start from Rs. 1.40 Crores and the BMW M8 Coupe will be priced from Rs. 2.30 Crores, all prices Ex-showroom Delhi.
