BMW M is the most desirable sports car brand among the German trio. A single letter which embodies performance, exclusivity and thrill. BMW M series of cars are popular around the world and enjoys a huge fan following. We have got multiple M models in India but most of those were discontinued due to the BS6 emission norms. Now BMW has started relaunching the M Series modes and we have three M cars in India - M2 competition, M5 competition and M8 Coupe. The thrilling X3M and X5M SAVs are just around the corner to get launched too. Let's talk in detail about the three available M models.
BMW M2 Competiton
BMW M2 Coupe is the most praised car of the current M lineup. All thanks to its nippy character and instant usable power. The icing on the cake is the availability of a stick shift gearbox which as rare as finding cars without soft limiters. However, in India, we only get the dual-clutch gearbox which is a gem in its own rights. Many fans complained about the M2 being very old generation and the dated interiors. Well, it is dated as it shares its parts and drivetrain from the older M3 and M4.
The BMW M2 Competition gets a 3.0-litre inline-6 twin-turbo petrol engine which churns out a remarkable 410hp and 550 Nm of torque. Its nothing to boast about but the power is very usable and its nothing out of your limit. You can play with it relentlessly without worrying about hugging the bushes standing aside from the road. The clever M DCT gearbox shifts lighting fast and is a boon to use.

The M2 Competition is a rear-wheel-drive coupe and it can burn rubber like guzzling petrol. Set the launch control and it will do nought to 100 in just 4.2 seconds. The M2 Competition is a looker too - unlike bigger BMWs with a shoddy nose. You will fall in love with the flared wheel arches and haunches of the M2 Competition. Overall the M2 Competition is the smallest M car right now, but it's no slouch. BMW retails the M2 Competition at Rs 83.40 lakh and at this price, it screams value.
BMW M5 Competition
BMW M5 is the most popular M model since its inception, it ignited the souls of enthusiasts with exhilaration with its amazing V10. Thanks to the ever-increasing emission norms and resulting downsizing, the M5 now settles with a V8. BMW was offering the M5 till the M5 Competition got launched. The M5 Competition is an absolute monster, endowed with 625 German horses. The looks are reminiscent to the 5 Series but you need keen eyes to see the flared wheel arches and sporty bumpers. The rear of the M5 Competition gets quad exhaust pipes along with a diffuser.
The BMW M5 Competition offers the perfect blend of practicality and blistering performance. The engine here is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 which produces 625hp and 750 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The gearbox gets three modes for added ferocity to the shifts with every level. The power is channelled to all the four wheels via the BMW's excellent xDrive system. You may ask, can it drift? It absolutely can, thanks to the state of the art drivetrain which can send 100% power to the rear wheels in 2WD mode. And the hooligan inside you is just a click away as M5 Competition gets M1 and M2 modes on the steering wheel.
The interiors are sumptuous and you can't really make out the differences between this and the normal 5 Series. Get into the perfect settings, activate launch control and it will do 0-100 in just 3.3 seconds. After all the soothing specs, its time to encounter the elephant in the room - the M5 Competition comes at a price of Rs 1.55 crores ex-showroom. The M5 Competition sprints on the drag strip against the Mercedes-AMG E63s and the Audi RS7.
BMW M8 Coupe
The BMW M8 is the flagship M model right now in the arsenal of BMW M Series. This is the first time that BMW's flagship grand tourer comes with the M incarnation. The M8 Coupe can munch miles relentlessly and tickle you with its blistering performance when you want. We only get the M8 Coupe in the Indian market, BMW has given M8 Competition, M8 Gran Coupe and M8 Gran Coupe Competition a miss. The M8 Coupe sports a very sublime design with some sportiness sprinkled all around. The front gets a pointed nose with chrome-surrounded kidney grille flanked with LED laser headlights.
The BMW M8 Coupe borrows its powertrain from the M5 Competition and in competition trim, produces same power and torque figures. However, as we don't get the Competition trim of the M8 in India, the power is capped at 600hp and 750 Nm of torque. But due to the weight shedding and better aerodynamics, the M8 does 0-100 in 3.3 seconds which is similar to the M5 Competition.

The BMW M8 Coupe is priced at Rs 2.15 crores ex-showroom and it is the most expensive BMW M model on sale in India right now.
