Earlier this month, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot announced to provide subsidies worth Rs 5,500 to the first 10,000 buyers of E-cycle. Along with that, the first 1,000 buyers will get additional Rs 2,000 subsidy on the purchase. With this scheme, Delhi has become the first state to offer subsidies on electric cycles.

Subsidies will also be available for cargo e-cycles and heavy-duty e-carts for business use. Delhi government has approved Rs. 15,000 in subsidies for the first 5,000 e-cargo cycle customers. Companies or corporate houses that purchase in bulk can also benefit from a subsidy of Rs. 30,000 in this area.
The key reason for introducing this subsidy is to bring electric cycles into the forefront of mobility to improve the delivery of services and last-mile connectivity. These types of electric vehicles cost between Rs 25,000 and Rs 75,000. Commercial e-carts, on the other hand, start at Rs 90,000 and go all the way up to Rs 3.00 lakhs.
When the scheme goes live, people will be able to apply for it online through the Delhi government's website. Whenever a dealer sells a cycle, he or she will log in to the website and register the sale, as well as the buyer's Aadhar card information. Within a month, the rewards programme will verify the buyer's address and deposit the pre-determined subsidy amount into customer accounts. Only dealers can currently login and apply for incentives on behalf of buyers. The e-cycle subsidy is anticipated to go online by the end of April.
