The Indian government is planning a major relief for commuters. According to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, all toll plazas collecting fees on national highways within 60 kilometers of each other will be closed within the next three months.
The minister indicated that all toll plazas that are in breach of the National Highways Fee Rules will be closed over the next three months. He stated this in Lok Sabha on 22 March while responding to a query on how toll plazas functioned even after the cost was realized.

In his speech, Gadkari also stated that residents living near toll plazas will be able to obtain toll passes by showing their Aadhar cards.
Furthermore, the Union minister claimed that India's road infrastructure will be comparable to that of "America" by December 2024 and that the government will install 650 wayside amenities along national highways, including dedicated AC rooms for infant feeding, washrooms, a trauma center, and a helipad for air ambulances, among other things.
