The BS6 emission norm came into play in India from April 1, 2020, and this marks the biggest emission change of the decade. India transitioned from Bharat Stage 4 to Bharat Stage 6 emission norm (skipping the Bharat Stage 5 altogether) and the vehicles have now become much cleaner and greener than before. The automakers had a tough time updating their products to comply with the new stricter BS6 emission norms. Although the OEMs tried their best to keep the cost of the products in check while transitioning from BS4 to BS6, the prices have increased significantly. But, there are still some affordable mobility options left and so today we have for you the cheapest 125cc BS6 scooter currently on sale in India and it is none other than Hero Destini 125 BS6.
Hero MotoCorp has updated its complete portfolio to comply with the stringent BS6 emission norms and this Indian automaker was the first two-wheeler manufacturer in India to launch a BS6-compliant motorcycle. In fact, Hero will also launch an all-new 160cc premium commuter motorcycle (Hero Xtreme 160R) in India post the lockdown lifts off. Talking about the cheapest 125cc BS6 scooter, Hero Destini 125, it is a very popular family scooter loved by both male and female riders. Also, it was the first scooter in India to get Hero MotoCorp's patented i3S technology (idle stop/start system) which overall boosts its fuel efficiency.
India's cheapest 125cc BS6 scooter is powered by a 124.6cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that churns out a maximum power output of 9 bhp at 7000 RPM and 10.4 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM. The scooter also gets a fuel-injected system with Hero's XSens Technology and the automaker claims that the BS6 iteration of Destini 125 offers 11 per cent higher fuel efficiency and 10 per cent faster acceleration over the BS4 model.
Talking about the aesthetic upgrades, the Hero Destini BS6 now comes with new signature LED DRLs, a chrome-embossed 3D-logo along with the addition of matte grey silver shade to the colour palette. The Hero Destini 125 BS6 is sold in two variants - LX and VX. The LX variant is priced at Rs. 64,310 while the VX variant retails at Rs. 66,800, all prices Ex-showroom Delhi, making it the most affordable 125cc scooter currently on sale in India.
Apart from the Hero Destini 125 BS6, we also have some other affordable BS6-compliant 125cc scooters like the Suzuki Access 125 and the Yamaha Fascino 125. The base variant of Suzuki Access 125 that comes with drum brakes and cast wheels is priced at Rs. 64,800, Ex-showroom, making it the second most affordable 125cc BS6 scooter in India. While the drum brake variant of Yamaha Fascino 125 with its sticker price of Rs. 66,430, Ex-showroom is the third most affordable 125cc scooter in our list.
