Citroen is reportedly setting up its first Indian showroom in New Delhi as they look to commence sales next year with the introduction of the C5 Aircross.
The showroom is currently under construction in Naraina area of New Delhi. While all the dealerships and service centres for Citroen were slated to be operational in 2020 itself, but the havoc of the pandemic meant that the Citroen's plans of commencing sales had to be pushed to 2021.
Citroen is looking to introduce the C5 Aircross as its maiden offering in the Indian market. While they have said that they would be not launching diesel engines in the mass market segment, the C5 Aircross will be coming with a diesel option.

The diesel unit powering the Aircross is a 2-litre turbocharged unit that puts out 180 BHP and 400 Nm. This will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox. A petrol variant is also expected to be offered on the Aircross for which details have not been revealed at the moment.
The C5 Aircross is expected to go up against the Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, VW T-Roc and the Skoda Karoq. It is expected to be priced in the ballpark of Rupees 20-25 lakhs (ex-showroom) and will try to establish itself as a dominant player in the premium crossover segment.
Citroen is also working on products that will be specific to the Indian market and markets in other developing nations. Three other models will be introduced at a later stage between 2021 and 2023. These will include a compact-SUV, premium hatchback and a compact sedan.

This is the third time the PSA group is trying to enter the Indian market. Citroen's success in the market will determine the entry of its sister concern Peugeot's into India. The group will be hoping to position and establish itself as a formidable premium brand in the country. The Citroen Showroom under construction in New Delhi does show that the brand indeed is committed to its cause in the market here.
