Electric vehicles (EVs) might be the new solution for fleet optimization and efficient last-mile delivery services. Want to know why? Give this article a read!
Electric vehicles have come a far way from their initial conceptual designs. Today, EVs are one of the greatest inventions that has been remarkably designed to meet industry standards of an IC vehicle. Electric vehicles have evolved from their initial phase of becoming a mobility solution for personal use to larger criteria of utility.
Interestingly, today last-mile delivery services from small to big logistics mainly depend on electric vehicles (EVs) as these logistic firms have understood the importance of optimization of the fleet. The idea to optimize with the electrification of fleets is to save the large chunk of money they earlier used to spend on ICV-fleet maintenance and purchase. By this, we simply mean to say that electric vehicles are much cheaper when it comes to maintenance. They are a cost-effective means that cater to last-mile delivery services.

The aforementioned is not just a vague ideology presented instead it is a fact. Many companies like Hero Motors have already decided to utilize their electric vehicle arm Hero Lectro to the fullest by partnering with logistics firms like Fast Despatch Logistics (FDL) and Turtle Mobility to cater to the last-mile delivery services. This is just one example out of the many industries that have recognized the importance of electrification of fleets for catering to the last-mile delivery businesses.
Bakar Sadik Agwan, Senior Automotive Consulting Analyst at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company presents his take on the electrification of fleets: "The country has been witnessing a significant increase in the collaborations among various kinds of business sectors like e-commerce, delivery logistics, vehicle rental firms for converting their entire fleet to EVs. The collaborations by the companies to opt for EV fleets is a positive development considering the rise in fuel prices and operational costs of ICE two and three-wheelers."
At times like these, with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is natural for new businesses to consider a careful look into the total operational cost and average fleet utilization period. This has made the EV makers cautious regarding the range anxiety and thoughts of ownership costs that prevail within their customers. However, this has positively resulted in the creation of EVs that neither needs any range anxiety nor worry of ownership costs.

"EVs are a growing solution to the environmental concerns that IC vehicles contribute. E-commerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart have indicated their commitment towards 100% electric mobility in their logistics fleet and new start-ups such as eBikeGo, Oye! Rickshaw and moEVing are also focusing on complete electric mobility. The growing inclination towards electric cycles, two & three-wheelers indicates that electrification offers a long-term solution for the e-commerce, logistics and related industries, and holds significant potential in India." added Bakar Sadik Agwan.
