Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) recently announced that it will soon roll out 1500 electric commercial buses in India. It will be considered as a part of the biggest tender for producing e-buses that will be launched by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary of Energy Efficient Services Limited (EESL).
CESL requests for a proposal of single-decker and double-decker electric buses. A total of 5450 single-decker e-buses are expected to roll out along with 130 double-decker ones which are set to be a Grand Challenge. The demand for e-buses will be aggregated across four-five major cities in India.
Commenting on this, CESL said, The scheme includes completely 100% e-buses and aims to reduce the operating costs for cities, removing bottlenecks of procuring e-buses by state transport undertakings, instituting best in class practices, and operating standards and enabling operational and passenger efficiencies by evolving into a platform for modernization of city bus.
Kailash Gahlot on Thursday tweeted, Under Honble CM Arvind Kejriwal's vision, were committed to achieving 100% electrification of buses. DTC will soon be deploying 1500 e-buses as part of #TheGrandChallege. CESL has announced an RFP today. Delhi will be the first state to adopt e-buses at such scale.

The Indian society is all set to make a shift towards electric mobility as the environment is getting progressively polluted. Looking at the condition of Delhi, the population is at a rise where pollution level needs to be controlled. That said, #TheGrandChallenge of introducing 1500 e-buses in the state is now a necessity for a better future.
Kailash Gahlot further added, We are aggressively pursuing electric mobility - and I commenced CESL for its efforts to standardize the terms and conditions for how this is delivered.
Few cities already have electric buses to travel however Delhi along with Bangalore, Surat, Hyderabad, and Kolkata will also notice the entry of electric buses in these cities very soon. According to CESL, the first set of e-buses are expected to hit the markets by July. CESL is also planning to enhance its support from the State Government to soon launch the e-buses and also to build an electric mobility infrastructure in the country.

Adoption of electric mobility will be a plus point not only for the betterment of the people but also for the environment. Lesser pollution in cities will also allow the people to get rid of harmful diseases like asthma and other breathing problems caused due to the polluted air around. This challenge will also give access to FAME-II incentives, air quality improvement, state incentives, and access to international and national sources of finances.
