New Twin-Cylinder Engine From Ducati: Details
The new twin-cylinder engine from Ducati displaces 890cc, with a 90-degree V2 layout which minimises vibrations without the need of a countershaft. This engine also comes with a variable valve timing system, aluminium liners, and the spring valve timing system from the V4 Granturismo. This engine weighs just 54.9kg, which is 9.4kg lighter than the Superquadro 955, and 5.9kg lighter than the Testastretta Evoluzione powertrains.
The cylinders are angled backwards to optimize weight distribution, and this engine will be available with two power configurations; 118bhp, and 115bhp, both at 10,750rpm. Ducati says the torque curve of this engine is more favourable for road use, and peak torque figures stand at 93.3Nm, or 92.1Nm at 8250rpm.
The 118bhp-spec engine can be fitted with a track-spec racing exhaust, which increases the output figures to 124bhp and 98Nm of torque at 8250rpm.

Verdict
Despite producing a single-cylinder powertrain not too long ago, and also featuring V4 powertrains in its lineup, Ducati has shown that it is committed to its customer base that buys twin-cylinder motorcycles. This new powertrain should be seen in India in the coming months.
