Electric Mobility solutions have started gaining good momentum in the Indian market. We have a lot of green personal mobility solutions like electric scooters, electric motorcycles and electric cars too. Hyundai Kona was the first mainstream electric car in India that boasts of a good driving range. It was followed by the launch of the Tata Nexon EV and the MG ZS EV. All these three green mobility vehicles offer great value and driving range. The Indian Government is constantly supporting the electric vehicle ecosystem. Now, EESL India will procure 150 Units of Tata Nexon EV and 100 Units of Hyundai Kona EV. Here are all the details about it.
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) is an Energy Service Company (ESCO) under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, Government of India. The EESL India has announced that they will procure a total of 250 electric vehicles from Tata Motors and Hyundai India. According to EESL, these companies were selected for providing EVs through an international competitive bidding process. Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India Limited won the tender. Now, Tata Motors will supply 150 Nexon electric compact-SUVs while Hyundai will supply 100 Kona electric premium SUVs to EESL for the government use.
EESL India will purchase these electric compact SUVs at a subsidised rate. The company will procure Tata Nexon EV at Rs. 14.86 lakhs each, which is around 13,000 rupees less than its original Ex-showroom price. Also, the Hyundai Kona EV will be procured at Rs. 21.86 lakhs, which is around 11 per cent less than its original Ex-showroom Delhi price. Both these electric SUVs will get warranty too and they will replace the existing ICE fleet of the Central and State Governments. The letter of award for the procurement of these electric SUVs was presented to these companies in the presence of Mr Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors, Mr Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors and Mr Tarun Garg, Director - Sales, Marketing and Service, Hyundai Motor India Private Limited.

Commenting on this auspicious occasion of the procurement of these great electric SUVs by EESL, Mr Saurabh Kumar, Executive Vice Chairperson, EESL said, A shift to EVs, facilitated by our e-mobility programme will reduce dependence on oil imports and promote power capacity addition in India. This will greatly enhance the energy security of the country and will also lead to a reduction in GHG emissions from the transport sector. Furthermore, we are also working on the rapid establishment of EV charging stations, which will give a fillip to the electric vehicle sales, going forward. Also, Mr Seon Seob Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai India and Mr Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business, Tata Motors shared their views on the same.
As EESL India has procured the Tata Nexon EV and Hyundai Kona Electric SUV, let's talk a bit about their specifications. So, the Nexon EV features a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a permanent magnet asynchronous electric motor that churns out 129 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque. The Hyundai Kona EV, on the other hand, gets a 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a permanent magnet asynchronous electric motor that churns out 136 PS of power and a whopping 395 Nm of torque. The Nexon EV has an ARAI-claimed driving range of 312 kilometres/charge while the Hyundai Kona EV can run 452 kilometres on a single charge.

The Tata Nexon EV is currently priced in India between Rs. 13.99 lakhs - Rs. 15.99 lakhs while the Hyundai Kona EV retails between Rs. 23.75 lakhs - Rs. 23.94 lakhs.
