Electric KTM Duke On Its Way - Confirmed

KTM is developing an all-electric Duke. Read details of this confirmed upcoming electric motorcycle.

The well-known Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM is all set to step into the electric vehicles segment. Recently confirmed by the manufacturer itself, an electric KTM Duke is on its way.

Not many details have been unveiled and we are yet to spot a test mule somewhere on the roads. What we know so far is that KMT has developed an electric motor of capacity 10kW motor which shall be able to hold a 5.5kWh battery pack. With these specifications, the E-Duke will compete directly with products such as Tork Kratos R which is currently the most powerful electric motorcycle on sale in India.

Whilst the Tork Kratos R uses a 4kWh battery pack, the rest of the segment which includes the Simple One (4.8 kWh motor) and Ola S1 Pro (3.97 kWh motor) shall directly be competed by the upcoming e-Duke.

Comparing the power of e-Duke, it'll be able to produce nearly equivalent power and torque figures as that of Duke125 (14.5 Bhp). With that said, KTM has accepted that they have no immediate plans and we expect the testing phase to go long.

Shaking hands with KTM is the counterpart Husqvarna motorcycles that are developing e-Pilen. This all-electric motorcycle will be the KTM e-Duke counterpart. Using identical mechanicals and being able to produce similar power figures, e-Pilen is also in the development phase. Following the typical Husky design, the new e-Pilen shall be using the similar bare-design language as seen on the gasoline siblings.

As expected, the e-Duke will feature sharp design cues from its gasoline siblings. The sharp front mixed with an upright riding posture and a semi-naked rear design will feature in typical KTM style.

As both e-Duke and e-Pilen are being developed simultaneously, we expect that most of the mechanical underpinnings will be similar. The trellis frame, upside-down forks, and rear offset mono-shock suspension will be used on both products.

Husqvarna is expected to produce a range of electric products from 4kWh - 10 kWh range. On the other hand, the Bajaj-KTM tie-up is also focusing on developing a similar range of electric two-wheelers.

Once showcased and launched, KTM shall produce the e-Duke at Bajaj's production facility in Pune. This shall also lead to the development of a similar portfolio from Bajaj itself. An example of this is the Dominar 400 & 250 twins.
