The Capital of India, Delhi, is one of the most densely populated regions in the country and more population accounts for a higher number of vehicles as well! Be it for urban or highway commutes, maximum vehicles are powered by fossil fuels which contribute to the pollution in the region. So as to curb the use of pollution-causing fossil fuels, the Indian Government, on the whole, has taken many steps and one of them on the cards is a special EMI Facility For Government Employees to purchase electric two-wheelers in Delhi.

Earlier the authorities had announced allowances to boost the use of electric cycles by increasing the intensives upto Rs. 5500/- where the first 1000 people claiming this scheme would receive a bonus incentive of Rs. 2000/-. Similarly, the government now plans to introduce easy instalment schemes for electric two-wheelers in the city which would first be offered to government employees. For this aim, they are now offering a joint venture based partnership to Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), which is a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited, to provide electric vehicles to government employees.
As per the statistics, two-wheelers, including motorcycles and scooters, account for more than 75% of the total number of vehicles registered in Delhi. Therefore, there is a much necessary need to curb the pollution from this major chunk. As the government has more than two lakh employees and most of them commute using two-wheelers to avoid traffic, easy EMI schemes would help them increase the affordability factor and would encourage them to take a risk to adopt this budding technology and set aside the psychological barriers. As it is, significant steps have been taken to develop the charging network across the city. Thus, the employees who wish to purchase electric two-wheelers would have an EMI option in hand if they are not willing to pay for the scooter upfront.
Keeping these things in mind, the authorities are accessing the feasibility of this idea in the long run and the reduction in costs. CESL would be responsible for developing and maintaining the charging infrastructure in Delhi and the organisation has already joined the league by sighing pacts with other states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Goa.
The government's aim to push the use of electric vehicles was established back in 2019 and they have managed to keep the head high and take significant steps to promote them with different schemes, allowances and incentives. Following these enforcements, the government also promoted the use of EVs in the private aggregator sector and delivery service providers. This not only proved to curb pollution but also economical on the pocket of the consumer.
