EV Charging Stations Planned Jointly By Hero MotoCorp and BPCL

With electric powertrains taking over the internal combustion engines in India, we are surely on a path of deviating towards the more eco friendly domain. As the public begins to show its keen interest towards electric vehicles, the lack of a proper charging infrastructure has resulted in many people stepping back from the decision. Certain organisations have taken a step forward to improve the charging infrastructure in the country and Hero MotoCorp and BPCL are some of them. They plan to introduce EV charging stations as a joint venture across the country. Hero MotoCorp has officially become the first Indian automotive manufacturer to tie up with a Public Sector Undertaking organisation to introduce the charging infrastructure in India.

As per the reports, the joint venture would initially focus on setting up charging stations in nine cities in India from Delhi to Bengaluru. They plan on progressively increase their coverage area and expand all over the country. They aim to establish a robust and high density charging station network so that the Indian public is confident enough to take an electric two wheeler on the roads without the fear of running out of charge in the middle of their commute.

EV Charging Stations

Earlier in September 2021, Bharat Petroleum had announced of introducing seven thousand petrol pump outlets into energy stations with multiple public chargers. The joint venture of Hero MotoCorp and BPCL plans to take a strong hold on the charging infrastructure in the high consumption based cities and then subsequently develop a charging ecosystem in other parts of the country. Hero MotoCorp has planned to commence with the development of charging infrastructure in specifically two cities where they would set up multiple charging points which would include both AC and DC charging options for two wheeler Electric Vehicles. This effective collaboration with BPCL would help the Indian EV buyers to a great extent as this joint venture has the ability to unlock a high potential of asset allocation and expansion in future.

Hero MotoCorp plans to introduce this charging system as an entirely cashless model where all the functions would be controlled by a mobile phone application. This would not only lead to the digitisation of the process but also eliminate any loopholes in the system. With a well established fossil fuel supply chain network of BPCL, this joint venture would ease out the efforts with a scope of streamlined operations and fetch decent investments to build this charging ecosystem.
