In its efforts to bolster its footprint in the Indian market, Kia is gearing up to introduce new products, including a sub-4-meter SUV currently codenamed AY. As part of this initiative, Kia has recently trademarked the name "Clavis" in India, indicating potential plans for an upcoming vehicle under this moniker. This is aimed directly at Tata Punch, which is already tussling with rapidly growing sales of Hyundai Exter.
Let's delve into more details and look at what awaits you in the future.
Kia Clavia: A Punch Rival To Land Soon
The upcoming Kia Clavis SUV is anticipated to share its foundation with the Hyundai Exter, a well-received model holding over 8% market share in the subcompact segment. While drawing inspiration from Kia's international successes, such as the Kia Soul, the Clavis will boast a distinctive design to set it apart from models like the Sonet and Seltos.
With a rugged profile, the Clavis aims to appeal to a new segment of users. Embracing a tall and boxy design, the SUV prioritizes ample passenger space, potentially addressing concerns about the Sonet's rear legroom. This strategic design choice aims to offer a solution while maintaining a balance between a spacious interior and accommodating boot space.

The sub-compact Clavis SUV is designed with front-wheel drive, similar to the Sonet. While details about electric variants are currently unavailable, industry standards suggest an anticipated range between 350 km to 400 km for electric versions.
Expected Price
The anticipated pricing for the petrol variants of the Kia Clavis is expected to range from Rs 6-7 lakh, while the electric variants may be priced in the range of Rs 12-14 lakh. Positioned to compete with models like the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch upon its launch in India, these small SUVs currently contribute to a combined monthly sales volume of approximately 23,000 units.
, with Kia achieving the fastest milestones of reaching cumulative sales of 5 lakh units and registering profits.
Verdict
With the introduction of the Clavis SUV, Kia aims to further expand its market share in the micro SUV segment. Presently, Kia's UV sales stand at around 2.4 lakh units per year, capturing a market share of approximately 10-12 percent. India holds the position of being the third-largest market for Kia and a prominent export hub and the brand will be looking to capitalise on the opportunity.
