Diagnosis Of Hazardous Fire In Electric Scooters: Here's What Niti Aayog Has To Say!

India is a country with extreme weather and harsh climatic conditions in various seasons. Automotive manufacturers have to take care of all the environmental factors before designing a product. As a safety precaution, significant number of road tests are done to prove the reliability of a particular product in the long run and its response to the real life scenarios out of the test conditions in a laboratory. In the recent times, all of us came across news of hazardous fire in electric scooters.

To look into this matter, Niti Aayog has suggested automotive manufacturers to diagnose the reason in depth and voluntarily recall the batch of vehicles which were involved in this fire hazard. As it is the government of India is also drafting certain rules and regulations along with comprehensive guides to take care of these kind of incidents.

As India is moving towards the path of electric mobility, people already had range anxiety issues but this is the major issue which can become a hurdle in the adoption of electric vehicles for daily commute as it is a life threatening hazard. There can be multiple issues involved which could have led to fire in electric scooters

One of the factors being considered currently is the manufacturing of batteries used to run electric vehicles. As the manufacturing of electric vehicle battery packs is not regulated, certain measures and quality standards need to be taken care of to cope up with the Indian climatic conditions. the performance might be up to the mark in laboratory test conditions, but might take a hit in the real life scenarios.

Seeing the gravity of this situation, the Union Road Transport and Highway Ministry of India has also issued a forensic investigation for each individual event where a technical report would be drafted and submitted as soon as possible to resolve these issues. These issues can be eliminated only when the research and development teams of automotive manufacturers are aware of the root cause of this hazard, and the government is actively helping them for the same.

Recalls can be laborious for both the automotive manufacturers as well as the customers but are a boon in the long run as a voluntary recall would aid to increase the research output with more number of iterations for testing purposes and help to diagnose the problem in a much more effective way in lesser period of time with more data to analyse the trends precisely.

Therefore, the government has decided to get in touch with the technical teams of Ola Electric and Okinawa Scooter to understand their diagnosis till date and take the investigation further. These hazardous incidents have alerted battery manufacturers after which they would employ the required set of tests and methods to deal with these issues.
