Ford Ecosport has been a consistent seller for the American marque and it has a huge fan following. Ford used to offer 1.0-litre turbo petrol with the Ecosport but that was axed due to the stringent BS6 norms. Now out of the Ford-Mahindra JV, reports confirm the launch of the Ford Ecosport with Mahindra's 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine which will happen early next year.
Ford and Mahindra entered in a JV in India last year and has confirmed three new products out of the joint venture. The much-loved Ecosport will also get benefited from this JV and it will fulfil the needs of the enthusiasts missing the 1.0-turbo in the Ecosport. Ford has confirmed the launch of the 1.2 turbo petrol Ecosport early next year. The engine will be the 1.2-litre turbo petrol we see in the Mahindra XUV300. However, the power figures of the engine are still not known as we have no confirmation regarding what tune of engine Ford will choose for the Ecosport.

Mahindra showcased the XUV300 Sports at the 2020 Auto Expo and that had the new 1.2-litre mStallion T-GDI turbo petrol engine. Mahindra hasn't launched the XUV300 Sports till now but we expect it to get launched this year. The 1.2-litre mStallion engine will produce 130 PS and 230 Nm of torque which is around 20 PS and 30 Nm more than the standard engine of the XUV300. It is yet to be seen whether Ford will choose the regular 1.2-litre turbo with 110 PS and 200 Nm of torque or the advanced mStallion engine with 130 PS and 230 Nm of torque.
The 1.2-litre turbo petrol in the Ecosport is expected to be mated with a 6-speed manual transmission we also see in the XUV300. Ford currently offers the Ecosport with a 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre petrol engine and the petrol also comes with 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre dragon-series engine is a 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which produces 121 hp and 149 Nm of peak torque mated to either 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Ford and Mahindra are also working on new B-segment SUVs which we will see in FY2022.
