Ford announced its exit from India in 2021, however, it now appears that the American automaker is ready for a comeback in the Indian market as an electric vehicle manufacturer. The Indian government has formed a PLI scheme with a budget of Rs 25,938 crore. Under the PLI scheme, 20 carmakers are selected as a part of the Champion OEM Incentive Scheme. Ford India is among those 20 manufacturers who can enjoy the benefits of Champion OEM Incentive.
Major four-wheeler manufacturers such as Hyundai, Suzuki, Kia, Mahindra, Ford, and Tata Motors, as well as prominent two-wheeler manufacturers Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, and TVS Motor, have been shortlisted for the Champion OEM Incentive Scheme.

The company, which promised a symbolic presence in India by selling brands such as the Mustang before withdrawing, will also assess if electric vehicles planned for export can be pushed into the Indian market.
On September 9, 2021, Ford Motors announced its exit from the Indian market, promising to provide support to consumers through its active dealer network. The company also stated that its products would be delivered as Completely Built Units in India (CBU). Ford has offered the Indian automotive market several excellent models like the Ecosport, Figo, Endeavour, and others before leaving the country. It will be interesting to see what products will be developed after Ford India comes back to the country.
