Bharat NCAP Effect: Global NCAP Not To Test Indian Cars

The Bharat NCAP has been launched to increase the safety of passengers on the roads. These new rules, launched on 22 August, will be effective from 1 October. However, ahead of the implementation, the Global NCAP agency has made an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Central Institute of Road Transport. According to this MoU, the Global NCAP will stop testing Indian cars from now onwards. This will be done to eradicate any confusion in the minds of customers. Additionally, the Global agency will also provide support to the Bharat NCAP in the form of providing the SOPs, the car selection methods, training of individuals, & other required technical support.

Bharat NCAP

The newly launched Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP), will allow manufacturers to voluntarily submit their new models for testing. In order to maintain the same standard of tests, the Global NCAP will support the Indian NCAP functions. Mind you, the Global NCAP test cost was Rs 2.5 crores per car submission, which will now be lowered up to Rs 60 lakhs only. Also, vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes shall be tested under the Bharat NCAP. Meanwhile, the ratings will be provided on a scale of 0-5 for each model. With the lower cost involvement, more manufacturers are expected to participate in this new programme.
